Frank Cagley's Parents--Iowa

Frank Cagley's Parents--Iowa

Surnames: Cagley/Kegley
I was just wondering if anyone could help me. I have very little family information to go on, but I found my great grandfather Frank Cagley, born in May 1882, in the 1900 Federal Census in the Garfield Township, Plymouth County, IA with his brother Walter, born October 1879, and his mom Mary, born about 1843. The mother's information is tough to read, however.

I think I found them again in the 1885 Iowa Census in Kingsley, Garfield Township, Plymouth County, IA. In that census, though, they seem to have used the spelling Kegley, but all of the other information matches. There are other children as well: Christopher age 18, Clara age 16, Lester age 14, Clarince age 10, and Louis age 8. All of them as well as Walter were born in Chickasaw County according to the census, but I cannot find the father Cagley/Kegely because Mary is listed as a widow in 1885, and I don't know Mary's maiden name. I haven't been able to find them any earlier.

Any information would help. Thanks.

Michael Cagley

Did you ever receive a reply to this message? I have the information, if you wish to contact me, I can dig out my source material. Frank's father was Christopher Lewis Cagley, son of Levi, son of Johannes C. Kegley (who became John Cagley). They started in Wythe Co., VA, moved to Johnson Co., IN, where Christopher was born, moved to IA. I have the mother's name as Mary Ellen Ritz. This was all compiled by Marion C. Cagley and also by Merrill and Maxine Cagley.

MY GRANDFATHER WAS WALTER ELLET CAGLEY , FRANKS OLDER BROTHER. I THINK YOU MUST BE RICHARDS SON. MY FATHER SHOWED ME A FAMILY BIBLE THAT BELONGED TO JEFFERSON TIBBETTS 1850. THERE WAS AN ENTRY FOR FRANK CAGLEY WITH HIS DEATH BEING LISTED AS BEING FROM TUBERCULOSIS, NOT SURE OF DATE. MY FATHER SAID HE WAS THERE. THIS WAS TOLD TO ME ON DEC. 9, 2004

Thank you, Virginia Sorry that I have not replied sooner. I have had sporadic (at best) Internet service for quite some time. If you receive this and are willing to help me any further, I would be very happy.

Yes, I am Richard's son, his eldest son. He had two sons: me and Brian. And from the census records I have, Frank did have a brother named Walter. If you would like, I would appreciate getting in touch to learn more about my family history. I know very little.

Sorry that I have not been in contact sooner -- my life has been hectic over the past year or so. Anyway, thank you for the information. If you can help me any further, I would be very grateful.

All of the information I have when I research Christopher does not include Frank or his brother Walter. Is there a gap in the information compiled thus far?
