Marlene, I am just beginning my search for ancestors. What little I have right now is my great, great grandfather was John M. Cairns, born 9-25-1836. Although I haven't been able to pinpoint place of birth, I believe it was Lee's Summit. My grandfather (only child) was born to Ira D. (7-3-1877)and Ida May Cairns on 11-13-1901 in Lee's Summit. Ira is son of Ian Cairns from Glasgow, Scotland, married to Beth Ann Tauderalso from Glasgow. If any of this links to your family, please let me know. Thanks in advance and hope you have a merry Christmas.

Doug - Good possibility of a match here! I am doing research for a gentleman whose wife descends from Alexander Cairns who left Glasgow, Scot 1820 for Ontario, Canada with wife, two sons and one daughter (Andrew, John, Christina. Son Andrew Was in IL by
1849, and in Lee's Summit where he probably died. He was there in 1880 census. Andrew was a minister. I would be happy to put you in direct touch with my Mr. Lowe, if you would like to list your address. My email address is: pachyderm@tri-lakes.net.

Doug - I must be tired (that's as good an excuse as any) John Cairns born 25 Sept 1836 Ontario, Canada, married Salome White 13 June 1859, died 1 May 1916 was the son of Andrew Cairns and Catherin Megee. Does that match your data? I know the birthdate does.

Joann - Mr. Lowe says his Lowe ancestors came to Massachusetts around 1640. He didn't say where they originated, but I can put you in touch with him if you think there is a connection. I am doing work for him on his Cairns line.
