Has anyone out there any connection with Opie's from Cornwall, England. My mother was an Opie and my family still live in Cornwall but I believe that there may be branches of the family in USA, Australia and South Africa.
The village of Stithians in Cornwall is my ancestral home and I would love to hear from anyone who thinks they may be connected.

My Grandmother was Ivy Opie born 1897, her father was Josiah Opie born 1862. Both were born in Victoria, Australia.
My Auntie has told me that Josiah’s father Thomas Opie, and his wife Ivy Kemp came to Australia from Cornwall, England. No other details are known.
I hope that there is a connection with your family.

Bob,
I noticed your message about Opie relatives. I don't really know much about mine and am fairly new to the geneology process, but I noticed on a family tree that there is and Eliza Opie from the late 1700's, who was married to John Jenkins. They were from Cornwall. They had 7 children. William, Thomas, John, James, Eleanor (Hocking), Elizabeth, (Gilbert) and Eliza Jenkins Lawrence, who was my GG grandmother.
I'd be interested in any info. you might find about Eliza Opie.

thanks, cherie

My G G Grandfather Thomas Opie, born 1827, son of Thomas and Elizabeth Opie, married Elizabeth Odgers 1st Dec. 1849.
They and their children Susan Jane, Thomas Odgers, John Francis (baptised at Stithians 1850 -1853) moved to N.E. England between 1853 and 1856.
My G Grandfather Joseph Odgers Opie and the younger members of the family were all born in Co. Durham between 1856 and 1860.
I believe G G G Grandfather Thomas and family were all resident in the Stithians area.

Hi,

I've recently discovered that my gt gt grandmother was Eliza Oppie (also spelt Oppy, Opie, Opey), born about 1811, Lands End, Cornwall. She married William Lucas who was born Lands End, Cornwall, 20-11-1809 and christened on 31-12-1809; so far I have not been able to trace this marriage. A son, William Lucas, was born at Lands End 11-9-1833 and died (where?) 27-7-1925. William Snr and Eliza went to Australia (date unknown), where my gt grandfather, James Lucas, was born 19-6-1857 at Emu Plains, New South Wales. I don't know what happened to William and Eliza and William jnr, but James is known to have settled on land in the Emu Plains area and raised a family there; there is a street named Lucas street in that town still.
If you have a connection to any of these ancestors I'll be glad to hear from you.

My connection to the Opie family is through my grandmother, Janet Amelia Ralph. Her mother was Honor Jane Toy m. to Francis Peter Ralph. Honor Jane Toy's mother was Grace Opie b. 5 June 1863. Grace's parents were John Opie b.13 Nov. 1839 in Wendron and Honor Jane Dunstan (or Dunston) b. 1839 in St. Stithians. Are we related?

I have quite a bit of Oppy and Opie info on families originating in Wendron and Stithians if you would like to contact me.
I believe the parents of your John b 1839 may be Francis Oppy and Elizabeth Jolly-and his parents John & Wilmot Uren-this MAY lead to a connection with my line but I cant promise at this research stage!! but happy to discuss further!
regards
Carole
