I married into a Skelton family, and my grandmother was a Skelton. On my grandmother's side, her father (George Glen, b. 1876)one of 11 children of Thomas William (born 2-10-1852, died 4-23-1899 and Jenny Ray Skelton (born 4-12-1852, died 1-16-1907.
That is as far back as I know.
On the other side, I have information going back to 1610, but I'm new to this, so I'm not sure how to read some of it. But can basically trace back to John Skelton, Sr. of Mecklenburg Co. Va. and follow them through SC in the 1775's to Georgia and Alabama in the 1790's to children of Solomon Skelton (married Mary?) Robert B, Dozier and William Hiram. Dozier is my husbands ancestor. William married Mary (Polly) Yound and moved to Tenn. and then to Ark.They had 10 children, Charles Frank 1830, John 1831, Elizabeth 1832, William 1835, James David, 1837, Millie 1839, Wiley 1841, Hiram Dozier 1843, Nancy P. 1847 and Sarah 1849.
Charles Frank had 6 children, the youngest Thomas W. Skelton 1859, married to Sara Ida Lewis. I am trying to find a connection between these two families. I would be happy to send copies of what I have to anyone interested.

Did not find a John Thomas, or Hiriam Amos, but Hiram appears over and over again. I have two branches of Skeltons, both in Mississippi at one time. There is Hiram Bowmer Skelton, born 10-03 in Florence, TX,
He is the son of Clarence Edgar Skelton Born 8-82 in Watervalley, Ms, Clarence's brothers were Luther Harris, William Oscar and Henry Franklin. All were born in Ms to William Hiram Zebedee Skelton, who was born in Ala in 1852. His siblings were: Robert (1849), Sarah E. (1855), Lou (1855), John (1857) and Thomas W. (1859)All were born in Ala to Charles Frank Skelton whose siblings were John (1831), Elizabeth (1832), William, 1835, James David 1937, Millie 1839, Wiley, 1841, Hiram Dozier, 1943, Nancy P. 1847 and Sarah 1949. All were also born in Ala to William Hiram Skelton.
I got most of this information from Natalie and Howard Skelton in Tyler TX. they mention a Mrs.John H Bryan, Sr. in West Point Miss. She has done a great deal of research.

I am in Texas. My husbands family came to Texas from Watervalley, Ms. My grandmother was from the Delta area of Ms. Her sister, Louise McCool, still lives (I believe) in Glen Allen, Ms. This is probably too long for this message board, please e-mail me at donnatskelton@yahoo.com Perhaps I can fax you some of this history, you surely fit in here somewhere. Glen Allen and Watervalley are both very close to where your relative is buried.

Well Tammy, I guess we're related! Yes, my John had a son named William Eugene, born 1735, wife Mary? William's brothers were John Jr. and Mark.
John Jr. also had a sone named William, born 1745 married to Sarah Scales and they migrated to Ind.
I don't have anything on the first William's children though. John Jr. is my ancestor.
Is there a Thomas W. in your line?
Thanks,
Donna
