Hello,
My grandmother's family were Sywyk's from Odrechowa, Galicia. Her name was Ewa and she had two, possibly three brothers and one sister who came to USA 1903-1910. One brother was 1/2 but difficult to say which one.

Only began my search in March 2002 so I hope to find others interested in the Sywyk family tree. The ship's record indicates that my grandmother's parents were Iwan and Ewa.

Hello Nick,
I do not know the Sywyks in New York state as my family has lost touch with those in NY. I send another message later this week with the names of children of Andrew and Nick who settled in Yonkers. Andrew and Nick had sisters Eva and Anastasia (Sadie) and their generation was late 1800's. Family came from Odrechowa, then under Austro-Hungary rule also referred to as Galicia. Odrechowa under Poland since WW2.

Did your family originate from Odrechowa? Have you found them on Ellis Island? I know met another Sywyk descendant from Odrechowa who lives in Ossining, NY but not under Sywyk name.

Might be helpful if you can provide your relations info on where they came from and when they arrived in USA or Canada---there's a Sywyk family in CAD as well.

Thanks for checking in and you may send me an email to my yahoo address directly or post to this message board with your family details.

Many thanks,
Annette

Hi Nick,

I have spoken with this family and they have asked not to be contacted. I am not sure which line they come from, but I am pretty sure it isn't one of the three that I already know about. Unless it is one of our Stephen's mystery siblings.

Annette,

This is a long shot. My mother's mother's maiden name may be Nellie (anastasia) Stecyk. She married a Michael Stecyk from Odrzechowa, Galicia. She had a sister that my mom new as "Aunt Page". She married my grandfather in Yonkers New York. Any possible connection? As far as I know she was never known as Sadie though, just Nellie.

Thanks. I am desperate to trace her lineage.

Hi Jen,
Yonkers or Hastings-on-Hudson was the jumping off point for many from the village/region. Your Nellie may very well be a cousin of my Sywyks. Nicholas was the first to arrive in USA and helped his siblings.

I have looked at the Church records and saw that Sywyk is a common name in Odrzechowa and likely some type of relationship. I have hear from a Seredynski family that the County records in NY are wonderful and have people to help you conduct a search.

Were your family eastern rite catholic or other?

Jen,
There was a big hat factory in Hastings as well as Otis Elevator operations and were big employers back in the day. Does any of this ring a bell in your family history/

Thank you for responding.

My grandmother and grandfather married in St. Michael's
Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Yonkers. I believe my grandfather was baptized in Odrzechowa. I have his baptismal certificate but no similar items for Nellie.
I will check regarding the hat and elevator jobs. I thought Nellie was a pastry baker but then again, it seemed unlikely that she was working. Do you have any information concerning polish churches?
