You may have provided a clue to my ancestors. I am looking for an Ellen Brophy, b. c. 1825, in Ireland, who married a Matthew Brown, b. c. 1822, also in Ireland. They were both in New York City at the time of their marriage in 1853. I don't know if Ellen ties in with your Brophys or not but it is possible. Let me know if you have come across anything, please.

Hi, sorry, but I don't think there is a connection. There is no Ellen Brophy that I've found as being part of this family. From the records I found, the Brophy's that married into my family, arrived in NYC about 1865. Your Ellen Brophy would be a generation before. Best of luck with your search...............

HI Mister C,

I've been away for awhile so I hope all is well with you. I was looking through this information and noticed that you found John Brophy married Rose and had children including timothy L. However, I find two 1870 census sources with Michael and Rose Brophy, with Timothy et al (NYC District 3 Ward 7 and NYC District 5 Ward 7).

I do see an NYC directory with Rose Brophy, widow of John. If you have a source for John, I'd be very interested. The Michael Brophy/Rose Brophy wall has been ahrd to crack.

Thanks for any help you can provide:)

The original posting was nearly 10 yrs ago from the records I had at the time.

Michael Brophy is the correct husband of Rose in this line, not John. I have no other records or notes regarding them as they are indirectly connected to my family.

Regards,

Thanks Mister C:) I hope all is well with you.

I do want to take the opportunity to thank you for connecting the Brophy line to your Begg family. Though mom passed a couple of years ago now, she and her sister had a good time during her last year learning about family connections they didn't even know they had. I guess that is the real reason we do this - every once in awhile, someone cares.

Thanks for making a few smiles and interesting family conversation:)
