Bernard and Catharine Burke, c. 1850

Bernard and Catharine Burke, c. 1850

I am looking for information about the above-named, who resided in Menomonee Falls at the 1860 and 1870 census, and the 1855 Wisconsin census. I cannot place them at all in 1850, although they would have had four daughters by then, all born in Wisconsin. Bernard was born in Ireland c. 1817 and Catharine also in Ireland c. 1824.

Bernard died between 1870 and 1880, and Catharine moved to Dakota territory with some of her surviving children.

Thanks for any help.

Civil birth and death records were not well kept in those eras in Wisconsin. Church records - baptisms and burials - may become your primary source. If you haven't already figured out what those might be, post some requests for the most logical Catholic or Protestant churches in the area where they lived (from the census records?). A church burial register can be more reliable than a cemetery record. The Mormons microfilmed the extant Catholic church registers, and many of the Protestant churches.
There may be Waukesha County probate records for Bernard, even probate notices published in the local papers.
