Dear K.M.
My paternal ggreat grandfather was Martin Horan,Ballinasloe, Co. Galway born 1829/30.His son Patrick (born 1861) emigrated to Boston around 1885 and married Delia Finneran and raised a family there.
The town Ballinasloe is abour fifteen miles distant from Loughrea. The name Horan has sometimes been spelt as Horne.
If you log on to rootsireland.ie, there are two births listed for Patrick Horan in Loughrea in 1828.
There is a charge of €5.00 to print a copy from the website.
Hope this will be of some benefit to you in research.
Good Luck.
Liam Horan.

Did Patrick have a brother who emigrated about the same time as he? My husband's family claims that Msgr Edward G. Horan was my husband's great uncle. My husband's great grandfather was named Tommy and he died in the 1890's, shortly after marrying and having a child named William (born 1892) who was my husband's grandfather who died in 1945.

In Margaret Barwick's obituary in 1992, it mentions a living brother Joseph Horan from Boston--so perhaps he didn't die at age 9 afterall? I am searching for Msgr. Edward G. Horan's obituary. He lived to a very advanced age and died in West Roxbury in a retired priest home around 1986.

My Name is Liam Horan from Ireland. I have done quite a lot of research on the Horan family both in Ireland and the U.S.
Patrick Horan and Delia Finneran arrived in Boston around 1883. The family came from county Roscommon,Ireland.
Patrick's parents were Martin and Margaret(nee Hanrahan)
Their family;Patrick 1861-1941,
James (my paternal grandfather)1864-1947
Bridget 1869 -? Unmarried
Mary Ellen 1871- ? Married Patrick Kelly.
Peter 1871-? Unmarried.
Mary Ellen's grandaughter resides in the original family home.
The Joseph Horan you refer to was,I understand adpoted by Patrick and Delia some years after the death of their own son Joseph.
Margaret Barwick's grandaughter resides in Florida, I am in regular contact with her.I understand that Margaret was the only member of Patrick and Delia's family to have childen.
I do hope that the above information will be of benefit to you.
Regards
Liam Horan.
