I hope I have the right place to post this. In the 1916 census my aunt Mabel Simpson is listed as a "ward" living with the Grant Hartwick family. The residence site is listed as 29 Macleod, Alberta. Township 17 & 18, ranges 1, 2, 3, & 4. W5M.
I would be grateful for any information regarding either her &/or the Hartwick family. Thank you.

Hi Stella - yes she was 11 years old and you can see her family in the 1911 census. Her parents were Emmett and Agnes. Agnes died in 1911 and Emmett stayed for a couple of years then left the kids and returned to the states. My dad was George. All the kids were separated so we have no record of Mabel after this one.
I don't believe the Grant Hartwick family is the "Ulysses" one.

From 1916 census:
Name: Mabel Simpson
Gender: Female
Marital Status: Single
Age: 11
Est. Birth Year: 1905
Birthplace: United States
Year of Immigration: 1906
Home in 1916: 29, Macleod, Alberta
Address: 18, 1, W5
Racial or Tribal Origin: English
Sub District Desc.: Townships 17 and 18, ranges 1, 2, 3 and 4, W. 5. M.
Household Members:
Name Age
Grant Hartwick 46
Margurite Hartwick 52
John Hartwick 22
Fred Hartwick 20
Mabel Simpson 11

By the way, some were sent to the Lacombe Home at Midnapore. Do you know where one accesses those records?

Thanks!
Rita

Hi Are you sure? The names are the same in the 1911 Census - as the ones in the 1916 Census you posted.

I would not give up on that - right now.
It would be a strange coincidence to have two families with the same name/ages etc

Split View - of the 1911 Census page - shows that the family were from the USA.
The name "Ulysses Grant"- makes one think that they were from USA - perhaps by 1916 they chose to use Grant as a Given name [ or Enumerator did not know how to spell Ulysses ]

You State:

LACOMJBE HOME
Contact Glenbow Museum & Archive - they should be able to advise

Do a Google Search for Lacombe Home Midnapore Alberta

Provincial Archive in Edmonton Alberta - may hold some records -

Of course you are right - it is the same family. I can find lots of family trees with them but no other info attached and no reference to Mabel. Not sure where to look next to find how long she stayed with them & then if she got married it would be even harder to trace. Grant died at Dewinton and is buried at Pine Hill I think. Do you know if that cemetery is available online in case she would be there?

Hi Rita - The Full copy of the Registration of Death - will show other information - May show cause of death
http://www.srhd.org/links/certificates.asp

Should show - the name and Address of the Funeral Director - The name and Addess of Cemetery.
Contacting the Cemetery Office - will give you the Section/ Plot and Grave number .

note: If ordering - you want the full Registration which will show all personal information as required at the time and known to the informant. A Certificate may just be a basic information taken from the registration -good for proof of the event - but without info that might be helpful

OBITUARY" May show names and locations of other family members at the time. Should show name and address of Funeral Home- Cemetery -

Family Search org is part of LDS > Perhaps visiting an LDS centre - you may be able to view the filmed registration
