Sharing FTM file between two MACS

Sharing FTM file between two MACS

Please let me know if you foresee any problem with what I plan to do. I have an Airport Extreme Router and intend to store my family file on an external hard drive connected to the router via USB. Then I would access the one file by using either of two MACS which I have (I would, of course, only open the FTM program on the MAC I wish to use at that given moment.)

Is there any potential problem I'm not considering? I do not sync my file with an on-line tree or even access ancestry.com from within FTM. I simply want to access the same file from both computers.

Thank you for your assistance.

Theoretically that would be possible, but it's hard to say how the shared file would behave. You'd have to be careful to only open the file in one copy of the software at once, and quit out of FTM completely whenever you were done.

Since you're not planning to sync, I think your chances are higher that things will go smoothly. You might encounter issues if the external drive disconnected while you were working on your tree.
