Looking for information on:

William Carter b. about 1883 in VA
Ether (Either/Esther?) Cabiness b. Oct 1896 in Franklin County, VA

1920 Census-lived in Elkhorn, WV
1930 Census-lived in Franklin County, VA, with Ether's father James Lewis Cabiness, and their three sons: Howard, William, Jr., and Walter. Can't find any of them in 1940 Census or in SSDI. Ether was my great aunt.

In trying to help out, I could not find them ( any of them!) on a census for 1940. I can tell you it looks like they were born and raised in Franklin County, so if you want a marriage certificate, you might send $1 and a SASE to
Franklin County Courthouse
Circuit Clerk
275 Main Street
Rocky Mount, Va 24151
Give the names of Esther and William and Esther's parents and ask them to look for one around 1919 - 1920. You MAY be able to find that. I don't know why they are all so hard to find. I looked them all up in my Franklin County Cemetery book but none of them were named in it.
Sorry, wish I could have helped more. Franklin is one of my special counties I work in.

Do you know if you have exact dates of death and they happen to be in the Roanoke area, the Roanoke library (virginiaroom@gmail.com) will take up to 10 obit requests and email them to you FREE? Put obit request in the subject box. Maybe some of those obits might help you. For any in the Rocky Mount area, if you email the Rocky Mount library at:
dorothyhodges@franklincountyva.org , she will fill up to 10 requests at 25 cents each if she finds them in the Franklin News Post and will bill you. Those reels go back only to July 1940. If you have any you need from 1991 forward, I can get those instantly for you thru my Roanoke Times subscription. I need only a full name and month/year. I hope this helps you! I may be able to get more recent ones from other states as well.

I just realized that I have a date of death for Esther of 17 Feb 1934. I don't know where it came from, but I must have picked it up somewhere to have a specific date like that.
