No relation. I first looked to the census substitutes for Ireland. Griffiths Valuation 1853. The Tithe's were done in 1824 but know of no complete records.

I found 227 Griffith Records for Mitchell, however, for some odd reason a bmd data base included the name MOORE in their reporting methods.

There were commonalities between Mitchell's, Orford, and as expected Ryan's and Byrne.

I found no David Mitchell except for 1870 nothing earlier, doesn't mean there wasn't any.

The most common Parish they had in common was Kildrought Parish, Celbridge Townland, and Parish of Rathangan, but not a common Townland. The Parish church is where most people probably met unless they were Townies.

You can find the Griffiths at www.failteromhat.com and
www.askaboutireland.com I just going to give a few eg.

1846 John Mitchell was listed as a Miller, Leixlip Kildare

Patrick and John Property #29, Kildrought, Celbridge
house&garden 0Acres0Roods0perches (old english measurement)

James Mitchell, Rathangan #3a house,office,land 2.2.35
Jas. & Thomas Mitchell, Rathangan #5a house,off,land 31.

A bmd database for Kildare, shows Patrick's born with a father named James: 1829, 1846, 1851, 1865

James Mitchell born 1796 and 1814, Anne Byrne's born 1795, 1805, 1806, 1811. Marriages of Anne Byrne 1829 and James 1829.

Ally Michel born 1830, 1 Mary Michel 1830, 1 Mary Mitchell born 1831 These could be the same Mary's, transcription error or one birth and then one baptism which might be two separate dates, generally a baptism took place the first Sunday after birth depending on circumstances. The website of this source cannot be put on rootsweb message board but I can give them to you in an e-mail: codeannette@yahoo.ca

5 Years of googling. I've been doing my husband's Irish family who came to Canada from Wicklow in 1818. Most of the websites are generic to most counties. Annette

Still looking for more information about g/g grandfather, Thomas Dunne born Timolin, Dec. 1791 Co. Kildare to Murtagh Dunne and Eleanor/Helena Keogh. Did they own land locally? Who was Thomas' first wife in Ireland? Did she die there? What happened to his siblings, John and Anne? How did Thomas get to Australia around 1840/41? When did his parents die? Where are they buried? Any leads gratefully appreciated.

This is what I know about the Orford part. My great grandfather John Mitchell's mother was Elizabeth Orford. I don't know the dates of her birth. I know she married Patrick Mitchell. That they had several children John,Elizabeth,Patrick,Michale,James, Delia, Mary, Sarah,Anne and Margaret. John was born in Kildare,Kildare,Ireland. I have his baptism certificate. John immigrated to New York.

The Ryan name comes from Elizabeth Mitchell who married a Ryan. I have a few children for them Lily is one and then I found a Mariar, Rebecca and John. I am not sure about all of them except for Lily.

Byrn's name comes from Patrick Mitchell father was James who was married to an Anne Bynes. I don't have any info on her except for the children Patrick, who I am sure of then I found an Ally, David and Mary.

I don't kow if this is the same people.

thank you for your prompt response. The Orford family in my line is Edward Orford from Ballysax Kildare Ireland, who married Alicia Browne(my ancestor)1847 in Monasterevin Co Kildare Ireland. Edward's father was a William Orford was a gentleman farmer. Alicia'as sister Cherry Ann Browne married a Stephen Byrne 1862 in the district of Athy Co Kildare Ireland. Not sure if our families are the same. I am not aware of your line John Mitchell. As you know there are a number of Orford families both Catholic and Church of Ireland all in Kildare. Also Byrne is a very common name also in Kildare ireland.Nice to hear from you.

Was interested to read your post, particularly regarding Alicia and Cherry nee Browne. An ancestor of mine, John Doyle, married Alicia's daughter - Cherry Anna Maria Orford - in 1867 and they had 3 daughters, Mary Alice, who married Patrick Ryan, Sarah Mary, about whom I know no details and Alice Kathleen, who married Patrick White. I can find no trace of John Doyle after the birth of his daughters.
I should be very grateful if you could cast any light on this mystery, which has been a teaser since I started researching.
