Also my Wenger's came from Bern, Switzerland if that is of any help. Do you have any dates on Harry Wenger? Thanks!

Also did your Wengers live in the Ryan neighborhood?

Ref: 6 May 1925, Manchester Democrat Radio, Manchester, IA - Death summons Mrs. Fred Eggiman - Mrs. Fred Eggiman passes away at her home after brief illness -- Funeral held Tuesday a.m. - Leaves husband, and eight children to mourn her passing. Many attend funeral -- Mrs. Fred Eggiman, one of the most widely known women of Ryan, passed away at her home Saturday, May 2nd, 1925, heart trouble causing her unexpected death. Mrs. Eggiman, while not in robust health, had been about her home doing her work. Early Saturday morning she was stricken with an attack of heart trouble and passed away suddenly.

Funeral services were held at the home at 10:00 o'clock Tuesday morning and at the Lutheran church in Ryan, at 10:30. Rev. E. Melchert, pastor of the church, had charge of the services. A large number of relatives and friends gathered at the church for the services. Interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery near Ryan.

Mrs. Eggiman was born in Switzerland, December 15th, 1853. She was educated in her native land, and grew to young womanhood there. She received religious instruction in the Lutheran faith in early life, and has been a faithful member of the church ever since. She was united in marriage with Mr. Fred Eggiman in 1880, and in 1882 she and her husband came to the United States and located at Monticello. In 1890 the family came to Delaware County and located on a farm in Milo Township where they resided until 1913, when they came to Ryan.

Mrs. Eggiman was the Mother of nine children, one dying in infancy. The children living are Mrs. Carl Wenger, of Ryan; Mrs. George Hamlin, of Hanford, CA; Mrs. Hugo Preussner, Delhi; Mrs. Roy Hamlin, Lemore, CA; Fred Eggiman, of Delhi; Mrs. Thos. Grapes, Delhi; Mrs. Charles Orr, Manchester, and Mrs. Clarence Petlon, Delhi. She is also leaves thirty-one grandchildren, and a large circle of intimate friends.

Mrs. Eggiman was a Christian Mother, a good neighbor, and was active in the work of the church and ladies society. Her passing removes from the community a woman who played well her part in life, and one who will be greatly missed in the family circle. The sympathy of friends goes out to the husband, and the children in their time of sorrow.

Ref: 9 Jan. 1945, Manchester Democrat Radio - Fred Eggiman dies here on February 5th - Pioneer of Ryan vicinity. Leaves many Survivors -- Fred Eggiman, pioneer of the Ryan community, passed away at the Bolin hospital in Manchester, January 5th, 1945, after an illness of a few weeks.

Funeral services were held at the Ryan Lutheran church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. Nath Matteis in charge. Burial was made in the Lutheran cemetery northeast of Ryan.

Mr. Eggiman was born January 29th, 1859, in Cantonburn, Switzerland. He grew to young manhood in his native land, and in 1880 was united in marriage with Miss Catherine Wenger, also a native of Switzerland. For a time they resided in Monticello, and during the past sixty-five years Mr. Eggiman was a resident of the county. The wife and Mother passed away on May 25th, 1925.

Mr. Eggiman followed the occupation of farming, and retired from active farm work when infirmities of age prevented.

He is survived by eight children, seven daughters, as follows: Mrs. Lizzie Wenger of Ryan; Mrs. Rose Hamblin and Mrs. Flora Hamblin of Los Angeles, CA; Mrs. Emma Preussner, Mrs. Minnie A. Petlon, Mrs. Mary Grapes, of Delhi, Mrs. Louise Orr, of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and Fred Eggiman of Manchester. He is also survived by thirty-seven grandchildren, and forty-two great grandchildren. Six of his grandsons are in the armed forces of the nation.

Mr. Eggiman was widely known in the vicinity of Ryan, and was held in the highest esteem by everyone. Sincere sympathy is extended to the daughters and son, and the grandchildren, who mourn over the loss of kind and indulgent Father.

Grandmother Louise Bertha (Eggimann) Orr wrote "the Eggimann family came to America in 1882 and lived north of Monticello, Jones Co., IA in an area called "Hardscrabble". The family lived there until 1890 when they purchased and moved to land about eight miles south of Manchester where Grandmother was born".

Grandmother wrote "that her Grandmother Wenger's name was Katherine Wenger but did not remember her Grandfather's name or if he came to America. Grandmother Wenger came to America and lived with her daughter, Mrs. Frederick Eggimann, and is buried at Golden Prairie Congregational Church, Delaware Co., IA in an unmarked grave. Grandmother Orr believes that Grandmother Wenger died ca 1900". Ms. Rhode writes the Peace Lutheran Church records at Ryan, IA list a Katherine Wenger d. 19 Nov. 1899, 83-1-1. Mrs. Rhode doesn't indicate the burial location but one would believe that it would be Peace Lutheran Cem. rather than Golden Prairie.

Grandmother Orr also wrote "that a brother of Frederick, perhaps a half-brother, John Eggimann, also came to the U.S.. He was killed in an train accident at Manchester, IA sometime between 1890 and 1900". Ms. Joyce Rohde writes a "J. Eggiman is buried in the Portable Cem. Do you happen to know any of Fred or John Eggiman's brothers or sisters, or parents names? These are two brothers names of Rudolph Eggiman born in March 1857 that I am trying to find in the Iowa area. Rudolph's son, Ira, was born in Elliott, Montgomery, Iowa.

Debra - I have the siblings and parents of my Frederick Eggimann but your Rudolph Eggimann is not one one of them. I have some other Eggimann notes of other families that I will look at.

Chances are that your Eggimann's came from Bern, Switzerland where the name is quite popular. I would suggest that you try the 1860 IA census for the names of Rudolph's parents and siblings. Do you have a copy of his obit? Thanks for the inquiry.
