Do you know when Grandfather was born or where lived or his Wife's first name? Did you know that there was an Oscar DePriest who was a congressman from Chicago in 1928? I ran across this information in a college history class and took notice since we have a Depriest in our family tree. I have no information on our Mr. DePriest but he was likely way before your grandfathers time. I'll look you back up if I run across anything. :)

Oscar Depriest, the Congressman from IL was an African-American. If you are researching the African-American line of Depriests and would like a (very) little info on him, you may want to take a look at this page: http://www.gnofn.org/~nopl/info/aarcinfo/quicky97.htm

Yes, I am aware that he was Africa-American, I have thought for a while now that we might have some African-American blood. I'll check out that site soon. Thanks for the info.

I am researching Simpson Alexander DePriest born Oct 11, 1810, we are assuming he is the son of Randolph DePriest of GA., but it is not proven. His first wife died and he married a second wife and moved to Ky. Part of his children resided in Paducah Ky and some in Arkansas. He had children by both
of the women. riverrock3@juno.com

Simpson Alexander DePriest is possibly the son of Randolph DePriest, Jr. although he is not listed in Randolph's Bible records. It is also possible that he is the son of Randolph's sister Naomi. Not far from their home in Hickman Co., TN there was a man named Alexander Simpson who owned land. Whoever Simpson belonged to he certainly has close ties to the Hickman,Perry Co., Tn DePriest's. I am descended from Randolph's son Hugh. J. Miller

Classification: Query
I too, am searching documentation as to who Simpson's
parents are. He is not listed on the tombstone for Randolph
III and Mary Bynum at the DePriest Bend Cemetery, along
with their other children, in Perry County. Of course, the book
Decendants of Robert DePress, by K. Waggerman lists
Simpson as son of Randolph III. Simpson's son, Samuel
Thomas DePriest is my gggrandfather. Sould you have any
luck securing documenation I would love to hear from you.
Thanks.
