My family comes from Louisa County, I can trace them back to my great great grandfather Samuel Grymes born in 1815. My great grandfather William Woodson Grymes fought for the Confederacy with the Louisa Blues. My grandmother's maiden name was Brooks, she was also from Louisa County, VA.

No, I have no direct family ties to Benjamin Grymes, at least to my limited knowledge. I did see that a Benjamin Grymes from Spotsylvania County was a pretty prominent politician in the 18th century.

Glenn, have you come across any George Grimes in Louisa County? He would have been born about 1885 in Bumpass. Parents unknown. (Although my Grimes were in Caroline County at that time, I'm trying to assist another Grimes researcher.)

Glenn, I have hit a dead end with my Grymes research. Perhaps you have something relevant: My Gr-gr-grmthr was Elizabeth Grymes (presumably her name from a previous marriage, since I know she had a son named Samuel Grymes, b.1815), who m. Charles Y. Lumsden in Louisa County, VA on 25 Feb 1832. I show a possible connection with James Grymes, but can find nothing on him. My Gr-grmthr, Ann Elizabeth Lumsden was born to them in October 1832. Can you help with this?? Thanx, Bill Sharpe-Richmond, VA

I believe you and I are distant cousins: Your Gr-gr-gfthr, Samuel Grymes was the son of my Gr-gr-grmthr, Elizabeth Grymes Lumsden (Charles Y Lumsden was evidently her second husband). I think, but am not sure, Samuel's father was James Grymes, b. 1788, maybe in Orange County. Have you any other connections upward from Samuel in your data which can help? I'd like to learn the names of Elizabeth's parents. I have Samuel m. Angelina T. Seay, having besides your Grandfthr, William, sons Robert and John Minor. Is this correct?

Glad to share info - Bill Sharpe, Richmond, VA

I responded to your query some time back, but haven't heard anything. Have you been able to learn your Gr-gr-grmthr's maiden name? I hope you have an update. You may recall that she's also my Gr-gr-grmthr.

Thanx,

Bill Sharpe - Richmond, VA
