I recently started this genealogy conquest with one thing in mind to learn more about my dad's side of the family.
I am finding it just a little bit difficult with very little information that I have to go on. but I was told of this story of my grandfather's dad Loudie and his brother Clarence coming from Kentucky, which I think was Grant County Kentucky, and settling in Bryan County Oklahoma in the small rural town of Utica.
My Grandfather's Dad's Brother hated here and so he went back to Kentucky. I was also told of a story and I am not sure if it was Clarence and his wife but Uncle Sterling said it was an uncle of his came to Oklahoma in a covered wagon and along the way his wife gave birth to a set of twins, but they did not make it to Oklahoma because they died somewhere along the journey.

I was reading Melissa Marksberry's query on Marksberry traveling to Okla. and about twins being born. Lynn B. Marksberry and wife Mary F. ??? He is the s/o of Arasha Marksberry and Martha A."Patsy" McCarty moved to TX from KY. The had twin sons Robert L. Edward. Other children were Ada and Cora. I don't have alot on these Marksberry other then Robert L. married Mattie Eliz. White c. 1894 in TX, Ada married J.T. Dudley on 03MAY1883 in Hood Co., TX and Cora married D.E. Davidson on 20AUG1886 in Hood Co., TX. Some of my Marksberry's lived in Bryan Co., OK in early 1900's, moved there from AR and then moved to CO. Hope this helps

Stan,
You and I may be searching the same people here. My grandmother was Hattie May Wilson bor 1883 in Ky. to George Washington Wilson and Mary Marksberry. They had ties to Wayne Co., Iowa and Grant Co., Ky. They moved or at least George Wilson did, to Wilson, Ellsworth Co., Kansas. From there to Oklahoma and to Texas. My grandmother Hattie, daughter of George W. Wilson and Mary Marksberry was married to Simeon Joseph Williams and living in Durant,Bryan Co., Ok. in census for 1900.

Stan,
I am sorry I haven't replied back to the other messages you have sent me, but I thank you for replying to the information that I have recently found out from my grandfather's brother, Sterling.
I have just gotten started in this Genealogy search because I wanted to know more about that side of the family, since I didn't get to know my grandfather all that well. I think I have mentioned that my gfather and gmother got a divorce when my dad was about 5 0r 7 years old, and although he did his best to keep in touch with the family it left my father, not wanting to have anything to do with him, and therefore I didn't get to know hardly anything about that side of the family.
I will let you know about any information that I come across pertaining to the questions you have about the other information that I posted, and that you sent me in an e-mail(about Arasha Marksberry) I don't know if you have this information already, but I came across a document where an Arasha Marksberry was requesting for his pay as soldier, I think the date was during world war 1, I am not sure I will check the information and then I will get back with you. Thanks for the information, I hope it does help. I will find that out when I talk to my Uncle Sterling again. Thank you and take care.

Stan Dowling:
The Linn B. Marksberry, that I'm familiar with, b. 30 Aug 1885 in Indian Terr, OK was not the son of Prilda Florence & Simon Kenton Marksberry. I believe he was the son of Sarah Banks? & Simon K. Marksberry. Simon K. & Prilda Florence Prater married 29 Nov 1885, after Linn B. was born 30 Aug. 1885. It is speculated that Sarah Banks? died 1885, in or as a result of childbirth, and Simon K. needed someone to look afeter his son. Have been unable to locate a record of marriage for Sarah & Simon. My speculation is that Sarah's last name is Banks, is due to Linn Banks Marksberry's naming. Linn Banks would have been Sarah's great grandfather. Given the early, and sometimes still used today, of naming the children after ancestors, try this lineage. You will see other Marksberry's getting into the Banks names.
Sarah's parents would be: Samuel Gerrard Banks & Elizabeth Martin. Thence; William Banks & Rachel Marksberry, thence; Linn Banks & Sarah Proctor, thence; Gerrard Banks & Ann Stanton. I got this out of several Family Tree's that had been submitted to Family Tree Maker.
Info on Prilda Florence that I have found. Her 2nd husband was Hiram Henderson McFarland, & Simon K. her third. Her parents were; Benjamin Prater Jr. & Susan Cole, thence; Benjamin Prater Sr. with spouse unknown. Benjamin jr. b. 1828, Susan b. 1832. Benjamin Sr. b. abt 1863 & d. abt 1749.
Linn Banks Marksberry md. Nevada Adaline Hodge on 16 April 1916. They had 11 children, with one set of twins, but both lived to adulthod.
I've also heard that Prilda or someone in this chain was Indian or part Indian. The person I am trying to help with this family line is a child of Linn Banks Marksberry. Would like to know how & where you fit into this line.
Arasha Marksberry b. abt 1805 was married twice. He md. Margaret DeVine, 22 May 1828. md. 2nd, Martha "Patsy" McCarty, 4 Sept 1837. Don't know how many children were with Margaret or their names, but Simon Kenton Marksberry's mother was Martha Patsy McCarty Marksberry. Both marriages were from Grant Co., KY records extracted by IGI. International Genealogical Index.
Lets hear from you. Would like to get a copy of Prilda's photo. Bob J. email: rfjohnson@qwest.net.

You dear man. Keep the info coming. Simon Kenton Marksberry was my ggrandfather. Stan Dowling is my cousin as well as the young man you are trying to help. Prilda Florence Prater was married 3 times. Her first husband was John Lacy and they had a son they called Poley,we're almost sure it was short for Napoleon. He died and she married Simon Kenton Marksberry and they had Arasha, Lynn Banks, Benjamin Pendleton, Rosey Lee (my grandma)(married George Lee Turner), Junie and Fannie. Grannie always told us she had a little sister with long red hair that died. She caught her hair on fire in the fireplace and she died. They have all since passed away. Hiram Hence McFarland was Prilda's 3rd husband. They (Prilda, Simon and Hiram) are all buried right around Harrison Arkansas. That part of Arkansas is where she and John lived and that is where she married Simon. You might look around that area for Simon's wife. But I never new before now that Lynn was not Prilda's. Uncle Lynn was a big man, best I can remember and Uncle Ben was a smaller man. But the daughters was not so small. My Grandma stood about 5'11" tall, the other girls was not as tall but rather hippy (sorry kinfolks). I myself stand 5"10" and have a medium built. We have red heads, blond's, brown's and some so dark its almost black. We have heard that Prilda was part Indian but could never find any proof. I've looked at the Indian rolls and there are Praters but haven't been able to match them up with anyone or anything. I have Prilda's mom and dad to Samual Prater and Susan Harding? (maybe her last name was Cole) They say somewhere down the line we supposed to related to either the James boys or the Coles which is how Cole Younger got his name. Keep in touch. Stan has more info than I do.

Wanda Jackson: Appologies for taking so long to respond to your reply. I forwarded a copy of your reply to the Marksberry person I am trying to assist. Unknown to me, that person's computer had crashed.
Landlined, and found out my party knows who you are. Gave info on where to find your message in ancestry.com. I have been traveling, so don't know if you have been contacted yet. Won't know if their computer is back up, until I land line tomorrow night. If it is, will resend your message.
I have compiled quite a bunch of info for them, now want to get them personnally involved in th research. I think it's more fun to do your own research. Takes you to so many fun places, and meet so many nice people, who are trying to do the same thing. In my last landline chat, forgot to ask if it was ok to give out their email.
Will try to remember to ask tomorrow night.
My email is: rfjohnson@qwest.net. Can I give your's to my Marksberry friends?? Bob J.
