I am searching for information on the surname Uptograph/Uptagrafft.
I am not a direct descendant of this family. I am helping an elderly cousin who we think his great grandmother might be of this family. Per the death record of his grandmother, Alice (Canfield) Phelps of Great Bend, Barton County, Kansas, Alice was born in Hancock County, Illinois andher mother, was Mary Uptograph, father: Mr Canfield.
A search of Hancock County, Pontoosuc Township, finds a Francis Canfield, wife Mary, both born OH with a daughter, Alice age 1 year in the 1870 census. Alice Canfield was born 1 April 1869. This fits.
But, according to the death record and 1900 and 1910 census records of Alice Canfield Phelps, her mother was born in Indiana.

We could use some suggestions and help in finding further connections to the Uptograph/Uptagrafft lineage.

There is a book, titled -- History of the
OP DEN GRAEF / UPDEGRAFF
Family

By
June (Shaull) Lutz

Today there are many different spellings of the name, but most if not all of them come from the Op den Graeff brothers,
Dirck -- Hermann -- and Abraham, who arrived in America aboard the ship Concord, in 1683.
I understand this book is very hard to find, but copies have been placed in many of the biggest libraries of the country, including the L D S library in Salt Lake City, also the D.A.R.
Library in Washington D.C. as well as the library of Congress, in Washington D.C. and other major libraries in the Mid-West.

You might try contacting B. K. Uptagrafft. He is sort of the family historian for my line and has traced our origins back to the 1500's (I believe). I don't have his address at the moment, but he has lived in Camano Island, WA for years (Seattle directory). There are only two in the book. If you like I could possibly track down a phone number. Sorry i couldn't help more.

Respectfully,

Edward D. Uptagrafft

We are now located in London, England. I'm assigned for 3 years to RAF West Ruislip. By the way, there is a new addition to the family. Ian James Uptagrafft was born at 1246am, 17 Aug 2004. He weighed in at 9lbs 11oz and 23.5 inches. (big babies run on our side:) Heather and son are doing well and I hope to have them home quickly. Take care and I hope to hear from you soon.

First, thank you for your military service. I was in US Navy, Submarine Service. I am told that I weighed 12 lbs. at birth but we were so poor I doubt mother had a scale other than the "Farm to Market" scale used to weigh livestock. Congrats on the new Uptagrafft baby. Please keep in touch. Have we ever met or - how is it that you are aware of my work with Uptagtrafft genealogy?
