Suggestion on finding land record?

Hello - I wonder if anyone has any suggestions on how I can find property records for my ancestor, Caleb Lewis (1780 - 1841?). Supposedly, he was a Quaker who owned quite a few slaves in Newberry County, SC. His conscious got the better of him, and he moved to Ohio with his wife Susanna in July, 1806, freeing his slaves.

I'd like to see if he really did own a larger plantation with slaves.

Hi Dan,

A quick Google search found these resources for you to begin to find your ancestor's land records.

Here's the link to the Newberry, SC Clerk of Court, which handles land records. http://www.newberrycounty.net/clerk/

Here's a link to the Old Newberry Chapter of the SCGS.

Perhaps a local volunteer can help you with the land record research.
