Without additional information, specifically where they lived or even the state in which they were born, the Baker's will be impossible to look up.

However, here is some info on the Beebe's. The 1840 only lists heads of households and numbers of males/females in various age brackets. (Download a blank form for the column headings, if you don't already have one.)

1840 United States Federal Census > New York > Madison > Brookfield
Thomas Beebe
Males 1 1 - - - 1
Females 1 1 - - - 1

1850 United States Federal Census > New York > Oneida > Bridgewater

1860 United States Federal Census > New York > Steuben > Fremont

Joshua Beebe [indexed as Bube] 57 farmer real val: $800 pers val: $500 NY
Mary 46 kpg hs NY

Hope this helps.

Hello,

After finding the mentioned 1900 and 1880 entries as an informational starting point, I eventually found Darius and Esther on the 1870, with the name recorded as BEBY:

1870 United States Federal Census > New York > Steuben > Howard
29 June p 19 bg ln 24 dw 179 fam 185
Darius Beby [sic] 35 day laborer NY cannot read or write
Esther 29 kpg hs NY
Viola 10 attd sch
Orletta 8 NY attd sch
George H 7 NY
Emeline 4 NY
Minnie 3/12 NY b March

I am unable to find the couple on the 1860 anywhere, using any search parameters. Frustrating.

However, given that they married 1858 in Plymouth (or South Plymouth), Chenango County, it seemed reasonable that Esther might be in Chenango County in 1850. I found one that fits, but not living with her parents:

1850 United States Federal Census > New York > Chenango > Plymouth > 23
30 July hand written pg 71 stamped pg 36 beg ln 35 dw (5)61 fam 582
Daniel Belden 24 NY
Almira 22 NY
Esther Baker 9 NY
Next family beg ln 38 dw (5)62
Gilbert Bowers 51 farmer CT
Dellia 50 CT
Palmer 19 male farmer NY
Washington 17 NY
Dellia 14 NY

Since the very next family head is GILBERT BOWERS, I thought there might be a connection.

IF this Esther Baker (living with the Beldens) is yours, this suggests that her parents had died. In checking the 1840, I found:

1840 United States Federal Census > New York > Chenango > Norwich
Roll 273 pg 29
Lemuel P. Baker
1 male 30-under 40
1 female under 5
1 female 30-under 40
TOTAL PEOPLE – 3
# involved in agriculture - 1

This Lemuel is definitely NOT on the 1850 and the name is definitely LEMUEL. While the script “L” is VERY similar to the script “S’s” on the page, there is a consistent difference in how the bottom of the “L” is looped. All the “L’s” are the same, and all the “S’s” are the same.

While the female under 5 years in Lemuel’s household is unknown, there is one other female BAKER on the 1850 in Chenango County whose age fits the 1840 census, and like Esther, she is not living with parents:

1850 United States Federal Census > New York > Chenango > Norwich
Roll: M432_487; Page: 198
Elijah Chamberlain 63 CT farmer real val: $7000
Johanna 66 CT
Henry 2 NY
Nathaniel (?) 3/12 NY
Catharin 28 NY
Emil Crandall 1 NY 5
Richard Fenton 25 NY
Helen Baker 11 NY

(In 1840 Elijah Chamberlain lived in Warsaw, Genesee Co., NY.)

I hope this helps a little.

thanks for the info. could you check the census 1840 1860 for both gilbert bowers and daniel belden. gilbert might had a daug named emmoline b abt. 1823-1830 and daniel's wife almira might be another sister.

helen baker that lived with elijah chamberlain family in 1850 in norwick ny might be the same 1 female under 5 listed in 1840 with lemuel p baker. you might be right about julia's parents dying , she could be last child born to an older set of parents. if sp she might have two sisters at leasts. i figured lemuel was born btw 1810-1830.

will email them to ask about julia esther baker. thanks julia hauss
