First Generation

1. James Davidson. Born 1756 in Raloo Parish, Larne, Antrim County, Ireland. Died 16 Jan 1822 in Raloo Parish, Larne, Antrim County, Ireland. Buried in Temple Corran Cemetery, Ireland.

Letter from Mary Semple 1910=
"we were from Calgary, Scotland; and had left Calgary to settle on the estate of William Edmondstone at Bullockwalk, near Ballycarry, North Ireland. This was after 1609, when Edrnondstone secured his property lease of 2,870 acres in Braidensland from John Dalway. Sir William Edmondstone, Laird of Duntreath, Stirlingshire, Scotland, was a relative by marriage to the Stuart family. Edmondstone secured 2870 acres of land in Braidisland, North Ireland. Braidisland is now known as Broad Island. A part of the land grant was what is now known as Dalway’s Bawn at Bullock Walk near Bellahill (Ballyhill.) Ballyhill is 12 miles North of Belfast in Antrim County, N. Ireland.
Amongst the first settlers, between 1609 and 1640, were three brothers: John, James and Benjamin; their recently anglicized sur-name was Davidson. John and James settled in Bullock Walk, near Ballyhill, and Benjamin in nearby Carnxnoney. "
"Your grandfather's parents were James Davison and his wife Margaret Jackson. When they were going to Ballycarry to be married, a press gang met them and took the young bridegroom along with many more to join the British army, at that time engaged in the revolutionary war with the United States, 1775. James Davison returned home safe and married his promised bride."

He married Margaret Jackson, Before 1780. Born 1760 in Raloo Parish, Larne, Antrim County, Ireland. Died 24 Jan 1854 in Raloo Parish, Larne, Antrim County, Ireland.

Letter from Mary Semple 1910=
"This lady was aunt to Andrew Jackson, twice President of the United States. The father of Andrew Jackson, whose name was John, was born in BalIyhill. He married a girl called Betty Hutchins and they kept an inn in Carrickfergus. Afterwards they emigrated to North Carolina where their son, Andrew Jackson, was born on the 15th March 1767. Therefore, your Grandfather and him were first cousins. Another aunt of the President's, Sarah Jackson, was the wife of William Craig, and she sleeps in Raloo Churchyard."
