Evelyn ‘Evie’ M. Schwan Trautlein

Wayland/Dansville – Evelyn ‘Evie’ M. Schwan Trautlein, 83, of Tucson, AZ, died Jan. 6, 2002 at the Odyssey Hospice Care in Tucson, AZ after a long illness.
She was born Sept. 29, 1918 in Wayland the daughter of Fred Mock and Theresa O’Connor Schwan. She resided her early life in Wayland and graduated from St. Joseph’s School, Wayland Central School, Geneseo Normal School and later earned a degree in special education from Lake Erie College. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.
She married Robert F. Trautlein July 13, 1946 and moved to New Milford, PA from 1946-49. They later resided in Cortland 1949-57, Dansville 1957-65, Jefferson Ohio 1965-82 and Tucson, AZ in 1982 until her death.
She taught special education in Fort Ticonderoga, Ithaca and Jefferson, Ohio. She was active in school, civic and church affairs in Dansville, Jefferson and Tucson, AZ. She was a Eucharistic minister in Jefferson and Tucson, AZ and was a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tucson, AZ for many years.
She was predeceased by her husband Robert in 1983; her mother in 1964 and father in 1965; and a sister, Josephine Simmons in 1955.
She is survived by three sons, Fred (Leslie) Trautlein of Edison, NJ, Thomas (Barbara) Trautlein of Albuquerque, NM and Mark J. Trautlein and wife Margaret Gaetano of Tucson, AZ; two daughters, Jude Trautlein and husband Mark Axer of Tucson, AZ, Marylu (Scott) Torrison of Loveland, OH; a sister, Mary Mandel of Arlington, TX; granddaughters, Suzanne (Tom) Saccomanno of Medford, NJ, Sara H. Trautlein Marlton, NJ, Stephanie Trautlein of Denver, CO, Valarie Trautlein of Spanaway, WA and Elizabeth Torrison f Loveland, OH; one grandson, Christopher Torrison of Loveland, OH; a great-granddaughter, Krista Gleiforst of Denver, CO; brother-in-law, David (Angela) Trautlein of Ilion; sisters-in-law, Helen Marie DeGraff of Ithaca and Louise (Robert) Cronin of Binghamton; several cousins including John Reynolds of Wayland; several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews.
Calling was held at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home in Wayland. A mass of Christian burial was held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Wayland. Interment, St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Contributions may be made in her name to St. Joseph’s School Memorial Fund, Fremont Street, Wayland 14572.
