I am thinking this man might be my g-g-g-g-g grandfather. I know for a fact my g-g-g-g grandmother's name was Experience Headley from Ohio. John Carey Headley listed eleven children when he applied for his pension (Experience being a daughter born in 1795). He lived in Ohio at the end of his life. He had lived in Washington County, Pennsylvania, and Virginia previous to that. He came from New Jersey originally. Anyone else researching these people? I could use some help...

Sandi: Look in the book 'The Headlee Family' by A.J.W. Headlee. OnPage 225 and 226 is his pension application and gives quite a lot of information. On page 231 it gives more information and shows his name in a roster of RW soldiers. Interestingly, he served in the 4th New Jersey under my gggg-granduncle Ephraim Martin. This book is in the Parkersburg WV library, and probably in the WVU library as well. My interest in it comes because my mother was a Headley.

Thanks so much for the information. I've seen that book referenced before. I will find it.

What an amazing age we live in! When else could the g-g-g-g-g granddaughter of a soldier easily communicate with that soldier's officer's g-g-g-g grandnephew? Strange to think about it--

Many thanks.

Carey Headley was an ancestor of mine. He was married to Mary Hathaway and they were both from NJ.
He listed these children (my additional notes in parenthesis):

Sarah Headley (1791-1827; married Benjamin Wilson; died Guernsey Co, OH)
Hulda (1793-?; married Harris or Shaw according to one source no nothing more)
Experience (1795-?; married Nathan Franklin)
Phebe(1797-?; married Jonas Poling)
Francis (1799-1876 ; married Mary Cree; died in Guthrie Co, IA)
Rachel (1801-1865; married Calvin Franklin; died Newcastle,IN)
Mary (1803-1865; married Stephen Harris, died Noble Co, OH; my line)
John Carey (1805-?)
Susannah (1808-?)
Catherine (1811-?; married James Archer)

I'd always like to know more about the family.

I have been able to find quite a bit on Nathan Franklin--next to nothing on Experience. My theory is that she died soon after my ggg grandmother Mary Franklin Young's birth in 1829. If you're interested in any info on Nathan, let me know. I have a copy of his will from Lawrence Co., Ohio.

Hi!
I was interested in your posting; because I, too, believe I am a HEADLEY/MARTIN descendant!

I have: MARY JANE ("POLLY") HEADLEY born 2-5-1801 VA; died 7-20-1845 Wayne County, IL. Married about 1823/1824 to ABRAHAM MARTIN born 9-4-1797 SC; died 7-28-1852 Wayne County, IL. 10 children:

1) JEPTHA MARTIN born 1825
2) EMILY MARTIN born 1828
3) PRUDENCE JANE MARTIN born 1829
4) JAMES C.MARTIN born ca: 1831
5) GEORGE M. MARTIN born 1835
6) ELEY MARTIN born 1838 *** (my 2x ggrandfather)
7) abraham h.martin BORN 1840; DIED 3-18-01862
8) MARY MARTIN (twin) born 1842
9) MANERVA VIRGINIA MARTIN (twin) born 1842
10) MARGARET (or MARTHA) MARTIN born 7-20-1845 Wayne County, IL

Could there be a connection here?

Please e-mail: elhzm@tir.com

We do NOT know ABRAHAM MARTIN'S parents or siblings; nor "POLLY'S", either!

Thanks!

Do you know if JOHN CAREY HEADLEY had a daughter born 1801 VA (probably KY before it was a state) named MARY JANE ("{POLLY") HEADLEY? She married ABRAHAM MARTIN born 1797 (probably Ky before it was a state-although listed as SC) about 1823/1824.

Do not know parents of either ABRAHAM or "POLLY".

ANY info sincerely appreciated!

Will share!

Thanks!

Thank you so much for thinking of me!

My MARY JANE ("POLLY") MARTIN (HEADY? HEADLEY?) died 1845 Wayne County, IL- that is the ONE thing we DO know; because she died in childbirth with her 10th child.

Thanks again anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please keep me in mind!
