We have an ancestor, Pierre Plante who married a woman with about 4 possible surnames, Weaks, Teaks, Weeks, Vix. We suspect this may be phonetic attempts at an Indian surname.
Can anyone decipher those names as Northern Michigan (or thereabouts) Indian language and/or have a Pierre Plante in their tree?

In the Mackinaw county marriage records I show;
Pierre Plante and Marie Daunais marreid 21 Jan 1836 by Rev. Bonduel

Pierre Plante and Mary Ann (Indian woman) married 6 Feb. 1837 by Rev. Bonduel.
You can write to the court house there and get copies.

If you are still out there I too am researching Pierre Plante & Mary Ellen Weeks. I have found two marriages for a Pierre Plante in Mackinac county one in 1836 and one in 1837 but niether one of them are to a Mary Weeks. One is to a Mary Dunias and the other is listed as Mary (an indian woman. I have both Pierre & Mary's death Records and her death record says the last name is Weeks. I also know that their son Pierre/ Peter married Veronique Derocher form St Ignace and all four of them are buried in the Crystal Lake Cemetery
