I'm looking for some more information regarding
some of my Gordon ancestors. My oldest Gordon
ancestor would be Alexander Gordon (Huntley
Gordons of Scotland)who was married to Jane
Stewart and a resident of Ulster before coming
to America. Their son Thomas was born ca.1746
in Ireland and died ca.1803 in Surry County North
Carolina.

My Gordon lineage would be:

Alexander Gordon/Jane Stewart
Thomas Gordon/Sarah Flynn
William Gordon/Betsy Herring
Harden Gordon/Lucy West
Celia Gordon/David Chandler
Nathaniel Chandler/Laura Boyles
John Chandler/Della Ruth Southern
William Chandler/Florence Severson

If you have something to share, drop me a line.

Vern,

You have some very interesting names in your post. One in particular that caught my attention was that of William GORDON and Betsy Herring.

I am currently researching my oldest traceable ancester Robert GORDON (1773-1854). I have a great deal of information about him but not his father.

All I know about Robert is that he was born in North Carolina and that his father's name was William.

Is there any possibility that my Robert belongs to your William?

My Robert moved to McMinnville, Tennessee sometime around 1807-1810 and he married a Sarah R.

Please let me know if any of this may sound familar to you.

Thanks,

TAG

Hi Tei,

Thanks for the response.

I checked my tree for information on a Robert Gordon but came up short. My William Gordon was born appx 1779 and had no sons named Robert. I also checked to see if he may have had a brother named Robert and came up short there also. Basically I couldn't find any Roberts listed in my tree at all. I do know that several Gordons did migrate to the Virginia/North Carolina area about that time so there is probably someone out there with more data. Good luck in your search! Vern

Hi Cynthia,

Sorry about not responding sooner, somehow how I missed your response. What a wealth of information! Unfortunately my Alexander would need to have been born sometime around the 1720's. I checked my tree for any links to your names and came up short but maybe you Tei (see following responses) will have some success. Good luck! Vern

Given the names in your lineage I think you may be able to help me.
I'm researching Dudley in Surry Co, NC and I'm trying to sort out which
William Gordon married Celia Dudley. Here is the connection:
Robert Dudley b. 1772 m. Clarissa Ross.
They had seven daughters and three sons. Two of these daughters
are as follows:
Elizabeth "Betsy" Dudley m. Harden Herring
Celia Dudley m. William Gordon
The Dudleys are also connected to Chandlers later.
I don't think this can be a coincidence.
I'm interested if you have anythng on Celia Dudley.

I made an error in my last post. It was Frances Dudley that married William Gordon. Celia Dudley married William Moore.
