I'm searching for my Kinroy/Kinrooi ancestors, and also for a cousin still living there, Heynen Lambert! My Great-Grandmother, Maria Margareta Simons, was born in Kinroy about 27 October 1877/78, to Hendrikus Jacobus Simons & his wife, Helen VanEsser/Vanisser. Margaret had 3 siblings: Ranier/Raner, Mary, and Elizabeth-who died there in a convent. Hendrikus & Helen emigrated to the United States, to the state of Nebraska, by way of Halifax, Canada, in 1892.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!

How unusual. Our surname as you can see is Kinroy. We have been trying to trace the name for years and have just found out about KINROY in Belgium.
Can you please tell me the exact location in Belgium as I feel we may have to start looking there to trace the surname.
Thank you so much
Hazel Kinroy

Hello, Hazel! Sorry, but I did not see your message until now.
My ancestors came (mainly) from Kinroy, Belgium, and some surrounding towns: Opglabeek, Bree, etc. Kinroy's modern spelling is Kinrooi, and is located in Limburg Province which is roughly in the northeast part of the country. From the 1550's and perhaps even farther back my family resided in that province, until my great-great grandparents immigrated to Nebraska! Maybe this will be of some help to you...feel free to write again. Sincerely, Karen

I'm always looking for new information :~) I've been fortunate to learn quite a bit about the families, but I still have gaps I'm hoping to fill, and there are many unknowns about the family just after they immigrated to the U.S.A. Are you a descendant also? It would be wonderful to hear back from you if you're agreeable! Thanks so much for your letter...

Hi ?,
No, I am not related to the Simons or the Van Essers family, just interested in Dutch emigrant families and during this research I also came across Belgian families. If you let me know what you are missing I can try to fill in these gaps.
I live just across the border from the region your ancestors came from!
Greetings,
Irma

Hi Irma! It's wonderful to hear from you :~) It might be easier to invite you to see my Ancestry.com tree? Many of my lines have been traced back to the mid-1500's, thanks to a very generous and smart cousin in Hasselt! There are still some gaps in Belgium, but my biggest troubles are with my immigrant family and their life in Nebraska after they came to the states in 1893. If you'd like to send me an invite just let me know. For now I can be reached at kmbw57xs@gmail.com. Thank you for your response, Karen.

Hi Irma, Yes I am definitely still interested! I haven't been online in awhile because I keep getting sick :~( I'll send an invite to view my tree to your home.nl email address...I would love to hear what you think and welcome any additions or suggestions that you may have! Jaak and I (we're 5th cousins if I remember correctly) corresponded for about a decade, but I haven't heard back from him in months, and I have tried several times. Do you know if everything's alright with him? He was wonderfully kind in sharing his research with me beginning in the 1990's and he provided my first in-depth information on my distant Belgian ancestors...it was and is still very fascinating to me, and I'm very proud of my Belgian/Dutch lineage! I may not be able to respond right away because this weekend I'm driving to Tennessee to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with my husband and family...may not be back home until around the 30th of Nov. or Dec. 1st. I beg your patience with me, and in the meantime I hope you enjoy perusing my tree :~) Sincerely, Karen
