Would appreciate any information concerning my great grandmother, Frances Pearl Ashabranner, born Nov. 20, 1868 to Samuel Mary Ashabranner. Frances later married John W. Stephens and lived in Caruthersville, MO. Does anyone have a Frances in their line or know of her parents, Samuel or Mary?

hi. My great-great grandmother was Alice Ashabranner, from Manilla, Arkansas, which is in Mississippi Co. She too would have been born in the late 1800's. Her daughter was Lucety, my g.grandma. I would like to go further in Alice's line.

There is a Mississippi Co. website devoted to geneology, I just forgot what it is. If you have any link to Alice, let me know. I'm sure there's a relation. The Ashabranners pretty much owned Manila, Ark. They are all buried together at the front of the cemetery in Manila. Hope I helped a little, good luck.

Shane,
Thanks for your response! Do you know who the parents of your Alice are? I know nothing of my great grandmother, Frances Ashabranner Stephens except that she grew up in Mississippi Co., AR. I know that she had 2 brothers, C. A. (Cade or Cas) Ashabranner and a brother, R. A. Ashabranner. She may have had sisters, too. I suspect she and your Alice may have been cousins.

Shannon,
No, I do not know Alice's parent's name. Unfortunately, my grandma didn't ask her mom, Lucety about her family. Alice's family bible has been lost, and we don't know how to find it. It had everything written in it. I'm just a beginner at geneology, do you have any tips? Maybe we can work together on the Ashabranners.

I had some cousins that went down to Manila, Ark., and they were told that the old records were burned in a fire. There are still lots of Ashabranners living in Manila. Maybe an add in a newspaper would get a response. We have a picture of Alice from around 1910, I'll try to e-mail it to you to look for family resemblance.
Hey, wait a minute! Ashabranner was Alice's maiden name, so her father could have been one of your ggrandmother's brothers!! Do you know what year they were born? I don't know her birth date, but she had Lucety in 1909, so she had to of been born in the 1880's. Well, keep in touch Shannon, you're probably a distant cousin!

Shane,
Contact me at shannon@trimjoist.com! I am also relatively new to genealogy. My father remembers that his grandmother's (Francis Ashabranner Stephens) brothers eventually moved to Hot Springs (R. A. Ashabranner) and to Glendale, CA (C. D. Ashabranner). The trail is cold so maybe we can put our heads together. I live in Mississippi but went through the Manila area last summer. I may try to take my Dad to Northeast Arkansas and Southeast Missouri this summer and do some investigating. Will stay in touch. Shannon

My name is also Shannon and I am a descendant of the Manila Ashabranners. My maternal G Grandfather was Ed Ashabranner. He was married to Louise Pierce from TN. They had two children, Eddie and Dora Gaye. Dora Gaye is my grandmother. There are still lots of Ashabranners living in Manila. Victoria Ashabranner is around 90 and has a very good memory. She might be someone you'd be interested in speaking to. I could get you her address if you are interested.
Hope to hear from you.

Thanks Shannon for your reply, and I do like your name! I would be very interested in writing to Victoria Ashabranner. If you could, please e-mail me her address at shannon@trimjoist.com My father has very little family, and he would really enjoy knowing more about his heritage. Both of his parents died before he was 10 years of age. Frances Ashabranner Stephens was his paternal grandmother who reared him after his parent's death. He grew up in Caruthersville, Pemiscott Co., Missouri. Thanks again :)
