Hello,

There is a William Cadwalader, 20, a pumpmaker and a Thomas Cadwalader, 18, a pumpmaker born in Pennsylvania listed on the 1850 Wilmington Township, DeKalb County, Indiana census in the James Likens family residence.

Does anyone know who these Cadwalader men are related to? Or, why they are living in the Likens house?

James Likens, 55, is listed along with Catherine his wife, 44, and Likens children: James T., 15, Jeremiah, 12, Isaiah, 10, Samuel, 9, Louisa, 5, Mary 3, Priscilla, 9 months and Susanna, 19. A

Thank you for any information you send my way!
Cheryl

Joseph Cadwalder is among those granted a letter of administration in the 1817 estate of William Likens in Mercer co. PA. I suspect that James Likens is the son of this William Likens (and I suspect another son is my ancestor, Richard Likins). I wonder if Joseph Cadwalder may have been a son-in-law of William Likens, and thus these two young men the nephews of James Likens?

Oh my goodness! Are you the breakthrough I have been looking for these past 25 years? I have been looking for the name of James' father and for the connection to the Cadwaladers.

What is your line in relation to James Likens? Which son of William?

Cheryl

Well, I suppose it's possible! <g> I've also had a very difficult time with my Likens/Likins folks for many years, and this "breakthrough"--if it actually is one--just came last year. When I get home tonight, or maybe tomorrow morning, I'll send you a document outlining what I discovered and what I think it may mean. But in a nutshell, I'm thinking that your James and my Richard were brothers, sons of this William. Richard died ca. 1825, and his wife remarried and later moved to Indiana also. Well, I don't want to say too much more since I don't have the info in front of me. But I'll get back to you tonight or tomorrow, and we'll compare notes!

Cheryl, I sent you the stuff on the Cadwalader/Likens possible connection; just wanted to make sure I used the correct e-mail address. If you didn't get it, let me know.

Hello Richard,

Thank you for sending the information. I'm, going to put my head together with a Likens cousin who also does genealogy and see what we come up with, she has a lot of info to compare this to. I will email you as soon as we finish talking this over.

Thanks!
Cheryl

Hi Cheryl. I saw your posting concerning the Cadwalladers living with the Liken's in DeKalb Co., Ind. William and Thomas Cadwallader were the sons of my gggg-grandparents, Joseph and Judith (Lukens) Cadwallader. I have many records concerning them, and descendants. I know the surnames, Likens and Lukens, are different, but I believe them to be the same. Your post was dated 15th April 2004, so I hope you get this! Cloden1@aol.com.

Hi Celeste, Cheryl is my sister, I'm Bea. Cheryl told me about you responding to her 2004 message. Cheryl and I both work on the family history. We'd love to hear more from you. I agree Lukens is not all that different from Likens. BeasHeritage@gmail.com.

I know this is an old post but thought I would put in my two cents worth.
There was a Jonas Lykins who opened a grocery store in Prarie Creek, Vigo IN near Tere Haute about 1817.
I found this looking for my Lykins/Likens line. My Lykins/Likens line went from PA to Fayette County WV (then VA).
It is suggested by Ancestry that Jonas was the s/o Peter Lykins and Mary Garrett/Jarrett who went to Fayette County (W_) VA. I don't know this as fact.
I have wondered if there is truely a connection.
