I'm from South Africa and want to come in contact with Fabels from different parts of the world. Who knows, we might be family!

I am from the Australian branch of the Fabel tree and it is quite an uncommon name here. I have a very detailed family tree somewhere showing the British then German heritage way back to 1690 odd if you are interested. Cheers, Phil

I have no idea where my family originated from. I only know the Fabel family in South Africa. How do you find out where your family originated from? Happy new year, by the way!

Hi

Yes, I am interested to find out more about my family tree. Fabel is also a very uncommon surname in South Africa and we are all direct family. How did you go about finding out about your family tree? By for now! Didi

Hi Deidre,

First of all, thankyou very much for responding. I thought at first you were my sister replying ... I was thinking, what the ?? ... then I read you were from South Africa, how interesting!

To answer your question, I am only a casual observer of ancestory as opposed to an active researcher. But there are people in the tree (from the German branch) who made contact with my mother several years ago and provided a detailed and well researched family tree. So it is good to see where other branches fit in.

I am interested that the South African Fabels are related. How many families are there and do you know when they started in South Africa and where they came from? .... I am guessing Holland.

Thanks again for responding Deidre,

Kind regards, Phil

Dear Phillip and Deidre,
I found your inquiry very interesting. My grandfather, Richard Michael Fabel (born in Magdeburg) had a brother who sailed via ship to the U.S. Unfortunately no one ever heard from him again. My grandfather hired private investigators, but had no luck locating him. Could he have arrived in Africa instead?
I would like to connect more information with the both of you to see if we have common family heritage.

Sincere Regards,
Mona

Hi Phil

Thank you for responding so quickly. It is very stange that your sister's name is also Deidre!

I know that my great-grandfather lived in South Africa, but I never knew him personally. My Grandparents had 3 children, my uncle ernest, my dad - William Emil and my aunt - Fiona Suzan. My grandfather had 5 brothers, but only 1 of them are still alive. I've never met all my aunts and uncles, which is a bit sad.

I hope that we are from Dutch origan, because I am crazy about Holland.

Take care

Deidre

Hi Mone

I spoke to my mom and she told me that my great-grandfather's dad came to South Africa from Germany. It is very frustrating, because that is about as much as any member of my family knows. I never knew my great-grandfather. I will let you know if I find out anything more.

Deidre,
This could be a connection or maybe not! What was your grandfathers name? And do you know what year he may have come? Was his name Albert? Thank you for your reply.
