Feddersen family in Iowa

My g.uncle was August Feddersen, a watchmaker and jeweler who had his own store in Belle Plaine, Iowa. He did not even speak english when he arrived from Germany. There were 2 sons, Paul and Earl. Only one grandchild, a son of Earl Feddersen and I have lost him. I would like to make contact with the grandson or anyone who knows the family background of Augus Fedderson. We have only a couple of photos to date and many fine memories to pass along. I only know, at one time there were Feddersens in or around Gladbrook, Iowa.

I am married to Michael Feddersen son of Carl Feddersen...
Carl Feddersen lived and died in Estherville, IA. My hubby
is interested in getting some info on the Feddersen family
from IA. All we know so far is his dads' name was Carl
Feddersen and Carl married Mary Sayers and they had
5 children...hubby doesn't know much because he was
only 4 yrs old when his dad died if you have any info you
have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and God bless.

Carl Frederich Feddersen was born in Holstine,Germany

This is Michael Wayne Feddersens' grandfather, he found out from his mothers brother Jack Sayers.

Carl John Feddersen was Mikes' dad. I will need to talk to Mikes' mom Mary (Sayers) (Feddersen) Reese to find out his birthday in 1920, and his death date in 1965.

Carl John Feddersen had 13 brothers and sisters some died in infancy. Louie, John(Armstrong, IA), Erma Hansen(Oscar), Emma(?), Henry(Ruth)Tordoff, Ernest, etc.

Mike met Emma about 8 years ago at David and Carla Ramseys' 25th wedding anniversary, it was the first time Mike recalls meeting her. Mike believes that is the youngest of Carls' siblings.

Hi, I am wondering if your August FEDDERSEN name is actually Carl August FEDDERSEN?
I am trying to help a friend find some info in this genealogy line.
Do you have a Adolf Feddersen as a son of August Feddersen?
Or a Fedder Feddersen, son of Adolf Feddersen in your research? I have located from ellis Island his trip he took to back from Germany which indicated he lived in Sutterland Iowa, at the age of 52, 5th of Aug 1912.
There are many Feddersen's whose relatives came from Germany in Washington. Possible migration connection, Eh?
We have a Fedder FEDDERSEN in this state.
Please let me know, for I would love to find the info and living relatives.

I'm glad to hear from you and promise I will get more information to you after the holidays. I'm just really busy right now. I have never known Uncle August Feddersen to have "Carl" with his name but I'm not saying that could not be right. I believe he had a brother Rudolph. Some of this Feddersen family ended up in Gladbrook, Iowa and some in Waterloo Iowa. Just talked to my mom, who is 90 and she says she thinks there was an Adolf in Augusts' family! If I lose you, just email me again. Plenty of chaos around here to jar your brain! Regards, Sally.

Sorry I can't give a good response right now. I will try to later. I do know that my great uncle who was August Feddersen, came over to this country from Germany. He did have relatives in Gladbrook who visited back and forth with each other. Just how they are related, I will have to check and search. My mother who is 90 years old in a niece of August Feddersen can perhaps shed some light on this. I have the obituary for August. It might tell us something. He was a prominent business man in Belle Plaine Iowa so shouldn't be that hard to trace. Will keep in touch. Thanks, sally.

I have a Johann, Marquard in my genealogy and knowledge of a Casten but they are from Obrien County Iowa. Marquard is my Grand Grandfather. I'll try to email you also. I also think that Johann's father is Peter but am not sure.

Please feel free to email me at

I realize this is a old post but I just came across it. From a 1932 Belle Plaine Iowa City Directory I find:
Fedderson, A. E., 1702 8 ave.; oc. jeweler; wf. Mabel.
Fedderson, Erle, 1806 9 ave.; oc. jeweler; wf. Izetta.
Fedderson, Paul, 1702 8 ave.

From a 1955 Belle Plaine, Iowa Phone book I find:
Feddersen, A E r 1702 8 ave. {phone number} 253 Green
Feddersen Jewelery Store {phone number} 435 Blue
{no Paul or Earl/Erle}
in ths classified section {yellow pages} there is under Jewelry I find: Feddersen {phone number} 435 Blue

from a 1960 Belle Plaine, Iowa Phone book I find
Feddersen, Paul 1702 8 ave {phone number} HI 4-2513
{note the address}
in ths classified section {yellow pages} there is under Jewelry I find: Millers Jewelry {phone number} HI 4-2446

from a 1975 phone book for Belle Plaine, Iowa I still find a Feddersen, Alen 1810 8th ave {phone number} 444-2546.

The reason for this is my father had an Insurance office on the second floor of the building where the Feddersen Jewelry store was, I was very young but I knew Paul and would go into his store when I would go visit my Dad's office {in a small town you knew everyone}. I have a picture of the store location from July 2005, not the same at all, but if you would like to see it let me know, i'll e-mail it to you.
