My grandfather was Fred Marx Jens, born in Germany, who lived in Deer Park, Washington. I also recognize the name Dorothy Kruse of Canada. Helen is familiar, I will have to look up the last name. I think the one you don't know was nicknamed Slim. I will have to look up his real name. There is another relative in Canada I can get in touch with who has done research on the Jens family.

Thanks for your message, any information you would like to share with me would be greatly appreciated.
I did find out the names of my great grandparents and that there were at least 7 children of Marx and Anna Hecht or Heesch Jens. Johann (John), Dorthea Kruse, Lena, Jerry, Fred (your grandfather), Edward Eggert(my gandfather), Henrich (Henry)and then Helene.
My mother said she can't remember Helene last name, thought it was Richman or Richmond. Helene had a son that wrote a book, that my uncle has and I need to contact him to see if he still has it.
I have an old photo of our great grandparents, and a few of my grandfather, We did go to Deer Park in 1966 or 1967 to visit your grandfather, I remember thinking that he looked alot like my grandfather.
Am very interested in any information you can give me and will share what ever I have with you if you are interested.

Your grandfather is part of my family tree (my Mom is a Jens). I have his name as Eggert, born April 4, 1885, married to Nora Hayden. The other sibling names are: Helene b 1891, Heinrich (Henry) b Aug 25, 1887, Fred Marx b march 15, 1883, Jergen (Jerry) b Nov 11 1879, Lena b May 13 1877, Dorothea b June 22 1875, and Johann (John) b July 20, 1873. Their parents were Marx Jens (June 29, 1850 - April 26, 1925)and Anna Heesch (b April 22, 1849 - March 29, 1929). Marx had two brothers: Johan 1846-1877 or 78, and Ed (Eggert) Jens (b Jan 13, 1847 - Feb 6, 1926). I'm decended from this Eggert. Marx's parents are Johan Jens who died at age 36 in Schleswig, Germany and Lena Ruge. Lena later remarried Bartholdt Hamann and had three more children (Claus, Mary and Stephen). That's about as far back as I've been able to go. If anyone has any more information, please share! I know most of the family is from Schleswig-Holstein Germany, but I haven't been able to track them down.

I was glad to see your query on the Jens family. My grandfather's name was Eggert Edward Jens and somewhere down the line it was changed to Edward Eggert. My grandmother was Nora Hagedorn.
Have been in contact with a Jens in Germany to see if we are related but they were all given so many names that it's hard to locate them. I do have family photo's of Marx and Anna if you would be interested.
I did not have the information on Marx's parents though that will be helpful. I'm still trying to locate information on Helene. If I can help you let me know. Thanks Tammi

Tammi,
I would be thrilled to see pictures of Marx and Anna if you have some! I have a little information on Marx's parents and siblings. Marx had two brothers: Johan we believe was born in 1846 and died between 1877-1878, Ed (Eggert) was born January 13, 1847 in Schleswig-Holstein, sailed from Hamburg Sept 1, 1868, landed in Baltimore Sept 14, 1868. (I think it's safe to assume your grandfather was named after Marx's brother). He also went by Ed and ended up settling in Rock Island, Illinois. Their father's name was also Johan Jens, died in Schleswig. He was married to a Lena Ruge who died February 1899 in the USA. Lena married again (Bartholdt Hamann). They had one child: Claus Hamann born April 21, 1907. Claus married a Mary Gormley and they had one son named Stephen. You should be able to find them in some of the Illinois Census records. Most of the information I have is from a family tree that my great grandfather Arthur Marx Jens created in January of 1945. I don't mind sending you a copy if you'd like. He also indicates Marx's grandfather as Jon Jens and he also lived in Schleswig. My mom has mentioned to me that at some point the family may have had a slightly different last name...just to make things more difficult. I've also tried to find Johan Jens (the dad) through his wife Lena, but I also wonder if her name may have been short for Wilhemina or something similar. I do know that Johan was only 36 years old when he died, so it may be hard to find him on a census record. Anyway, if I find anything else I'll keep you posted! Thanks, Robin

Father of Johan Jens was "Jon Jens, Schleswig".
Helene Jens married Frank Kemp (could be Kamp) Jan 1925.
Dorothea Jens Kruse's grandson, Robert V. Reynolds, wrote Of Rice & Men.

Saw your message: were you able to find Helene's last name, the real name of Slim or the relative in Canada who has done research on the Jens family? Dorothea Kruse from Swift Current was my great grandmother.

Hello,
My Grandmother's maiden name was Jens. From what I've been told she came from Fehmarn Island...Bannesdorf. Was hoping to find some info about here and the family.
