49-year old resident of Albuquerque, James M. Mesnard, deceased at age 76 in Las Vegas, NV, April 5, 1998. James was born in Lackawanna, NY, December 22, 1922. He lived his childhood in Hamburg, NY. He attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY in June of 1940, where he received full scholarship for academic achievement. He then attended the Institute of Meteorology in Chicago, IL. He was a member of the Twelfth Weather Squadron/Army Air Force, where he was in active duty February 28, 1944 through January 3, 1946. He was decorated with the European Africa Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and Meritorious Service Unit Plaque. He then graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in Lafayette, IN on June 13, 1948. He also received his Masters Degree from the University of New Mexico in the early 1970's in Education. He began his work with Sandia Laboratories in Albuquerque in 1948 through 1971 as a Mechanical Engineer. From 1956 through 1960, he worked in Livermore, CA with the Sandia Group. He then began work with the Air Force Weapons Lab, Department of United States of Air Force at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, where he retired on October 3, 1990. For 30 years, his favorite pastime was Bridge, playing with his group of close friends, Dr. Alan Minge, Dr. Jake Spidle, John Barry, Frank McMullin and Doris (Smokey) Partrick. He is survived by his good friend, Betty J. Peterson of Las Vegas, NV, Dr. Caroline Peterson of Dayton, OH, Mikel Peterson of Las Vegas, NV, his brother and sister-in-law, Don and Betts Mesnard of Hamburg, NY, his sister-in-law, June Mesnard and his three nephews, Bob Mesnard, Dr. Bill Mesnard and Ron Mesnard. He was predeceased by his brother, Howard Mesnard in 1994. Memorial services will be held at Christ United Methodist Church on Gibson Blvd. in Albuquerque at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, April 27th. Interment will be at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM at 12:00 noon on Monday, April 27th.
