I'm searching for any information Ida Whittle. I know she married Jarvis Asbill and became Ida Whittle Asbill. They had 7 children: Pace, Dewie, Richard, Gladys, Epsie, Berlie and William. They lived near Saluda County, S.C. If you have any information, please contact me. Thanks.

I am researching my great-grandmother, Luhamie Caroline Whittle.
She is possibly the daughter of Elisha Whittle and Nancy Body originally
of SC. Luhamie was born in 1837 in Macon Co., GA. Later the family moved
to Pike County, AL. Luhamie married John Colon Magouirk of Pike County, AL.
According to information I have John Elisha Whittle, Jr. is the son of Elisha
and second wife, Orpha C (?) being Luhamie's half-brother. Since I have just
received some of this information, I would love to receive confirmation from you
all that you show her as part of this family group. Thanks for your help.

Hi Billie,

My name is Vickie Sasser, and I am related to the Whittles via Charity Whittle, sister to Luhamie Caroline Whittle. We have come to a block, as we cannot figure out who Charity's and Luhamie's mother is. We have found Nancy Orpha Boddie, Orpha C. ?. Are Nancy Orpha and Orpha C. one and the same person? They are the same age and birthdates are the same. I found Charity and Caroline in the 1850 census for Stewart County, Georgia. It lists Elisha and Orpha, Milbray, Louisa, Charity, Caroline, and Elisha. Along with John Sasser. John B. Sasser was my ggggrandfather who married Charity. In the 1860 census, Eastern Division, Pike County, Alabama, it lists Elisha, Orpha C., Charity, and Elisha. In the Pike County Heritage Book, there is a write up on The Whittle Family, which has a picture of Orpha Whittle and Elisha Whittle. There is also one on John Elisha Whittle Jr. According to the article, Orphelia died on January 4, 1885., and Elisha Sr. died on June 20, 1885. Any information you might have would be greatly appreciated. I am willing to share my information, as small as it is. Thanks.

The 1850 US Population Census (GA> Stewart Co>Box Ankle District):
The enumerator has Elisha & Orpha WHITTLE listed as having married within the year. If this is not an enumeration error then Orpha would indeed be Elisha Whittle Sr's second wife. Note: The enumerator also had Elisha & Orpha as having attending school in the same year, so it could very well be that the enumerator made his marks in the incorrect columns and/or on the incorrect census page lines.
