Would like to know if what is the first name of Hughes who married John Colmy/Colmey in Co Kildare? And also Mary Colmey was born in Co Kildare - what is her exact date? John and Mary were the father and daughter - Mary is my late grandmother.

Thanks very much

Oh dear! Sound like I got wrong information somewhere! But I was told that John Colmy was married to Hughes in Ireland - my late grandmother was Mary O'Hanlon nee Colmey/Colmy was from Co Kildare and moved to Dublin then married to Francis before they had 8 kids but sadly she died at age of 28 on 23rd Jan 1939. Wasn't sure about Mary's exact date of birth but her middle name was Josephine - thought she was born in Bailieborough but I was told she was born in Co Kildare! - my head keeps buzzing around!!

You may already have Mary Colmey's marriage cert, but just in case you don't ...

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FYVS-159
Name: Mary Josephine Colmey
Registration District: Dublin North
Event Type: MARRIAGES
Registration Quarter and Year: Apr - Jun 1927
Estimated Birth Year:
Age (at Death):
Mother's Maiden Name:
Film Number: 101576
Volume Number: 2
Page Number: 292
Digital Folder Number: 4199368
Image Number: 00033
Collection: Ireland, Civil Registration Indexes, 1845-1958
(same refs for Patrick Francis O'Hanlon, so a match)

This might be her parents marriage details:

Name: John Colmey
Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1892
Registration district: Athy
Volume: 3
Page: 261
FHL Film Number: 101256

On the same page, with same ref details, is a marriage for MARY HUGHES.

I wonder if this is your Mary Josephine COMEY, born Bailieborough, Co. Cavan??

Name: Mary Josephine Comey
Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1910
Registration district: Bailieborough
Birth Country: Ireland
Volume: 2
Page: 349
FHL Film Number: 101073

If so, she is on the 1911 census(as Mary ELIZABETH Comey, aged 6 months which unfortunately DOESN'T tally with the above birth info) living with her grandmother Mary Comey in Cavan (+ other members of the family). But you never know!

There are some Colmey baptisms & marriages here http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/search.

Also, some Colmey births at familysearch.org.

Good luck!
Colette

Surnames: Colmey, Bishop
I am having a difficult time finding any documentation at all for my ancestor, James Colmey, previous to coming to the US. I have searched just about all the resources online, including familysearch.org and rootsireland.ie. Can anyone help?

James Colmey, b. abt 1817 in Ireland. Arrived in the US abt 1849, settling in Albany, NY. He married Catharine R Bishop in Saratoga Co., 1852. The first children were named James E and Christopher R, and per the Irish tradition that seems to have continued for several generations, James or Christopher could likely have been the name of the grandfather back in Ireland.

At this site http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?a..., there are 5 COLMY's, all living in the Parish of Rathangan, as follows:

Eliza, Ballinure
John, ditto
James, Kilnabooley?/Kilnadooley?
Peter ditto
Edward ditto

They all had a house and/or land, so appear to have been 5 different families, though probably related. No sign of a Christopher.

And here'e some earlier records (all from ancestry.com):

I copied this info from the roots ireland website (pay site) - maybe your James + siblings?

Here's their email address in case you want to contact them kildaregenealogy@iol.ie

On the 1901 & 1911 censuses, there are still Colmy/Colmey families living in the same area.

Happy hunting!
