Seeking further information on collateral branches of Gardner family of Pownal. George {1707-1801} came from Rhode Island (descendant of George and Herodias Gardiner). George's son, David Gardner {1741-1813}, had the following children born 1771 to 1791 in Pownal: Joseph, Charity, Freelove, Solomon {1780-1859}, Abraham, Nathaniel, Peleg, Mehitabel and Benjamin (died 1870, Pownal). Solomon Gardner came to Oswego Co., NY in 1830s from previous residences in New Lisbon, Otsego Co., NY and Navarino, Onondaga Co., NY. I believe that Abraham and Nathaniel also came to New Lisbon, Otsego Co. and that the three brothers lived near to one another. Peleg settled in Leicester, Monroe Co., NY early 1800s. All who have these geographic areas in their lines are encouraged to respond. Thanks.

Hello Kevin, It's been a while since your post, but I was just led out of Mass. and N.Y. where I've been stuck for some time, into Vermont. I've been in limbo with my John Gardner b. 1791 in N.Y., his father was said to be a David, I just found someone else from this line who list David's b. 1754 in Vermont,d.1803 Unadilla, N.Y., his mother was Bridget?? from Colerain, Mass.. John married Elizabeth Babcock Mitchell and they eventually moved to Indiana, where they settled and died. Though our dates don't click, I thought maybe I'd take a chance and see if you may have ran across my John's father David in your research, I am trying to see what Gardner line I descend from. I had heard David's father may have been a David?? Thank You, Nancy.

Three years + after the message was posted but I'll give it a try...I am trying to confirm that my branch of the Gardner family was from Pownel, Vermont. My g-g-g-grandfather was Warren Gardner (10/18/1813 to 05/25/1859). I have found sources that indicate he was the son of Rhodes Gardner (1784) and Lucy Gardner (1785). Rhodes' parents are indicated to be from Pownel Twp, Bennington Co, VT, Joseph and Judith Gardner. You have a Joseph listed as the oldest son of David Gardner (1741- 1813) but if he was born in 1771 having Rhodes in 1784 would be a little hard to believe. Rhodes does show up in New Lisbon, NY. Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you/ Jan Gardner Moore

I am looking for Polly Gardner's parents. She was born August 20, 1811 and died August 29, 1865. She is buried in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Pownal. She was married to Richmond Brownell about 1831. They had 11-12 children and lived in Pownal/North Pownal. Any help appreciated.

My great great grandfather was Franklin. My great grandfather was Daniel B. Pettibone. He was married to Minnie Hayes.
I'm trying to find out about her. Franklin and Harriet moved to VT from Cheshire, Mass after 1860.
Minnie Hayes was born in VT in July 1856.

Your query about George Gardiner and Herodias Long Gardiner brings me to my interest in Gardiner/Gardners. George's son Benoni by his first wife Sarah Slaughter goes through my line. My line goes off to NY via RI and CT. Please respond to me via pdelorey@gbonline.com. I am interested in any aspect of this family line. Thank you, Karen DeLorey
