Surnames: Foy
I am looking for the ancestors of three Foy families who immigrated from County Mayo to Chicago, Illinois, USA, around 1850. I know they are related but I don't know how. At least one of each family is buried in the same plot in Calvary cemetery. An obituary for one (see 2 below) says he was from Castlebar.

1. Dominick and Nancy Welsh Foy. Immigrated c. 1849. They were born c. 1821. Dominick died in 1901. After a brief stay in Nunda, New York, they settled on Ohio Street in Chicago. After the Fire, they moved to the Bridgeport section of Chicago at 2925 Throop Street. Dominick was a laborer. They had at least three children: John F. born in County Mayo c. 1848, Mary born in Illinois c. 1860, and Thomas born in Illinois c. 1862.

2. Thomas and Mary Higgins Foy. Immigrated c. 1850. Thomas was born in Castlebar c.1829, Mary c. 1833. Thomas died in 1903, Mary in 1907. Prior to 1865, they lived in Sycamore, Illinois. In 1865, they moved to 17 O'Brien Street in Chicago, just south of 12th Street, west of the Chicago River, where Thomas was a laborer. In c. 1878, they moved to a farm in Dawson, Iowa, with all except their two oldest children. In 1900, they returned to Chicago and lived in Bridgeport at 3600 Union Avenue. Thomas and Mary had seven children, all born in Illinois: Thomas born c. 1859, James Aloysius born c. 1862, Patrick born c. 1873, John born c. 1867, Stephen born c. 1869, Mary born c. 1873, Kate born c. 1877.

3. Thomas and Ellen Foy. Dates of birth, death, and immigration are unknown, except that Ellen died in 1900. They were the parents of Margaret Foy, born in 1865 in Chicago. Margaret Foy married Patrick Kane in 1887. They had three children: Helen born c. 1889, Joseph born c. 1892, John born c. 1893. Patrick Kane died in 1893. Margaret Foy Kane died in 1910, and the children then went to live with the John F. Foy family (see 1 above).

I have a John Roach born sometime near 1840 from Castelbar whose mother was Ellen Byrne. Ellen Byrne's parents were Mary Foy and Michael Byrne. Not sure if that helps you in the least, but I thought I'd throw it out.

I know of a Margaret Foy who was b County Mayo. She m'd Denis Minnegan/Minihan in fall of 1857 somewhere in the U.S. and settled in Afton Twp, DeKalb County, IL. He settled in Kendall County, IL. His sister Mary Ellen(?) m'd Patrick Baines in Liverpool (John b there too)and came to Kendall County. I can put you in touch with someone from that family if you wish.
