Hi Freda,

Is this William Penn as in Pennsylvania? I'm related to this character - my Grandmother was Dorothy Penn.

Our family tree is at my website (http://www.alexbremer.com) under "Bremers" in the menu.

Good luck... Alex

I am also connected to the Penn family from Samoa. I have started researching my family history and this is all the information I know: My grandmother is Mary Penn, born to John Herbert Penn and Mele (last name unknown) in Upolu or Savaii in the early 1900s. John Herbert Penn was born in 1859 in Shenstone, Straffordshire, England and moved with his family to New Zealand in 1881. John Herbert Penn moved to Samoa in 1888 from New Zealand. My grandmother had 2 brothers, Arthur Penn and Charles Penn. Their father, John Herbert Penn, remarried to a Jane Coe in 1908 or 1909 and they had 3 children, Geoffrey, Effie and Lucy. My grandmother, Mary Penn, married Roy William Akers (U.S. Navy) in Pago Pago, American Samoa and they had 3 boys - Herbert Joseph Akers (my father), Norman Akers and Lionel Akers. My father, Herbert Joseph Akers, married Julia Bertha Hunt (born in Lotofaga, Upolu) in Auckland New Zealand and had 6 children - Ingrid, Eugene, Marjorie (me), Herbert Jr., Roy and Paul, born and raised in Tokora, New Zealand. My parents moved our family to California in 1970. My mother, Julia Bertha Hunt Akers, passed away in 1999 at Sacramento, California. Please contact me at marjorie.mcgill@yahoo.com if you think William or Henry Penn are related to my great-grandfather/grandmother's family. Thank you.

Thank you. Charles S. Penn is my grandmother, Mary Grace Penn's brother. Salu Penn was first married to my grandmother's older brother, Arthur Reinsford Penn, and following his death on October 3, 1922, Salu married her other brother, Charles S. Penn. I don't know if my grandmother (Mary Grace Penn Akers, died November 26, 1944) is buried at Magiagi Cemetery as she may have died in Pago Pago, but if you could please check your records for her gravesite at Magiagi Cemetery that would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

News in NZ is telling about a John Penn. when my son started searching your writing came up. Arthur Penn is my grandfather, and Charles my granduncle. Arthur married Salu Magele from Iva, Savaii & Leauvaa Upolu. They have 3 children, Henry married Viva Schuster,Maryann married a doctor Anesi Malaefou & Archie Penn married Peleise Schwenke of Apia and Leulusoo of Saleaumua, Aleipata. Arthur was a carpenter and he built the church in Fusi Savaii hwhen he died in 1923His brother Charles then married Salu and they have 3 other children, Lucy married Fred Atiga of Apia, Philip married Tasilua faleafaga of Lepea and Charles had a son from a woman of Mataafa family in Aleipata, and he had a son named Faasino married to faasoosoo, a taupou of Mulifanua.Iam also named Effie Lucy, I met them in the 60s when they came to Samoa. My dad said one lived in fiji and the other lived in Christchurch. The Penns in Samoa have been discussing a reunion of all Penns in Samoa as we have all come from the one man who went to Samoa as an accountant. His first wife Mele is from Leulumoega, the family of Sooaemalelagi, the high chief.Auntie Maryann Anesi had just died last year at the age of 95 years. Her son Alo Anesi is the CEO of the PagoPago territorial hospital. It would be grat if we can all get together and start putting our family history & connections in record. If you search a little bit more you will see that the Penn that came from England was a "Lord" as the English history says. The people who came from England inthe 1840- were settlers to anew land.I have alwayd been proud of my roots as a Penn because they are one of the few europeans who settled in Savaii. Look forward to your response. As for me, I have a big family 9 children, 2 girls live in America and all the 7 boys live here in Auckland.I am a retired school teacher, and I &my husband work from home. Love to hear from you soon. my regards to you & family. Tofa soifua.

Hi Effie, I'm sorry about this very late reply to your message. If you would like to email me direct on flaurenson@billabong.com.au I would love to communicate with you more. My grandfather is fa'asino whom you mentioned on your message. My dads name is Anesi. Like yourself I am a very proud Penn, especially because every Penn I've met or been introduced to, or heard of we have been able to track our roots all to the same family. I look forward to hearing from you. I have some paper work on the Penns which I was able to retrieve from Samoa incase you don't already have it on file. Take care, Freda : )
