Having read nearly all boards on this server, none included The origin of the Altemus family. So, here it is.

Peter Althomus came to America on September 27, 1740. He entered through the port of Philadelphia, PA.
Left from Rotterdam, Germany on the ship "Lydia" under the command of Capt. James Allan. This is Hans Peter Altemus.

The source is "Pennsylvania German Pioneers" Vol. I by Ralph Beaver Strassburger, LL.D. 1934 pgs. 277-278.

Technically the origin of the Altomus (Altemus) family in America is actually Maria Catherina Altomus, wife of Johan Philip Serfass. She arrived in Pennsylvania on 27 Aug 1739.

Maria Catherina married Johan Philip (about 1731). An online source referring to a, "pastor diary of Moravian congregation at Nazareth," said that Johan Philip, "came with his wife to PA."

Johan Philip Serfass arrived in Pennsylvania 27 Aug 1739 on the Ship Samuel, according to Rupp's Collection of 30,000 Names of Immigrants in Pennsylvania, page 133.

Maria Catherina (Altomus) Serfass is my 6th-great grandmother through her son, Wilhelm Serfass, and granddaughter, Margaretha Serfass (married Jacob Miller in 1802).

This is especially interesting to me.

My GGGGGGgrandfather was a Richard Lee, who converted to the Moravian Church in Bethlehem at age 84 (a noteworthy enough event that it is listed in the records there).

My Ggrandmother, Matilda Lee married Lewis Redner Altemus, in Philadelphia or Camden. Children Lewis, Mary and Evelyn Lee Altemus (my grandmother).

My records are in storage right now, so I may not be much help to anyone.

Christine, I believe I might have some additional information on the Altemus family. I am related through my grandmother and connected with someone who had researched this side of the family. I believe it is the same family even though I have the spelling as Altimos for some of the family. My records show that Hans Peter show was born in 1700 had a brother and sister. His brother was Johann Friederich Altimos born in 1716. The sister was Maria Catharina Altimos - born 1707. Johann married a woman named Susannah - but I have no further information on her. Johann and Susannah had 6 children:
Juliana Margaret Altemus b. 3/11/1760 Germantown PA
died 1848 (this is the line I have followed).
Susanna Altemus b. 1748
Johann Frederick Altemus b. 1751
David Altemus b 1755
Leonard Altemus b. 5/26/1763 Germantown, PA
Johann Jacob Altemus b 5/22/1765 Germantown, PA

I also have information that Johann Friederick 's father was Wilhelm Altimos born 1675. He married Anna Caecilia Reinmuller in 1700 in Offenbach Germany. She was born about 1676 and died November 30, 1734.

I hope you find this information helpful - any feedback you might have would certainly be welcome
