Hi Cathy

I also have a Thomas Brophy that I am tracing, I believe that my Thomas and his brother James were transported to Australia from Mullingar Gaol, Ireland for Sheepstealing.

I believe that their parents were Patrick Brophy and Mary nee Byrne. Patrick was deceased at the time of their conviction, and Mary requested leniency from the court as her sons were her means of support - this request was denied.

If it may link to your research interests - I would be interested in trading info

I have Thomas Brophy, b. Ireland Abt 1830, married Nancy Rouse, 1851, in Clinton, Iowa.
He died on the Oregon Trail. Does this sound familiar? If so contact me at pwithers@lewiston.com. I am seeking any family he may have had.

To Martina, Thanks for your response. I do not know any more about Thomas' family or anything except he came from Ireland. He was born there about 1830. He died on the way to Oregon Territory, in the 1860s.

Hi, Mary, Thanks for the query. My Thomas Brophy was born about 1830, but 1828 would fit, in Ireland, don't know where. He was married to Nancy Frances Rouse,7, Dec. 1851, in Clinton County, Iowa. They were parents to 2 boys and 2 girls, the last one being born on the night her father was killed in an Indian Raid on the wagon train they were traveling in, somewhere in Idaho, along the Oregon Trail. This was on 1, Jun 1862. That is all I know about him. This may or may not be the same as your Thomas Brophy, but I think it just might be the same one. Please lets keep in touch. I have dates and names, but just put this in as a thumbnail sketch. I am happy to share what I have. Patricia Withers
email me at pwithers@lewiston.com. His daughter, Mary Regina Brophy is my great grandmother. I hope to hear from you.

Theresa,

Not sure if this will help, but I am descended from a Thomas Brophy, which I have as born in Ireland in 1828. He came to the U.S. and married Mary Egan Nov. 19, 1849 in Fall River, MA. I don't know anything about Thomas's father or his siblings. There were seven sons and daughters of these two, Alice, Richard, Martin, Ellen, Katherine, Margaret and Elizabeth. I am descended from Katherine Brophy, Thomas' daughter.

Get back to me if this helps.
