Hi, I'd like to introduce myself to some of you at least - some have known me for years.

I'm the board administrator for the Gorin board and hope you will continue to post your queries here.

Most of the time I can help you with the Gorin family that are descendants of John, Henry and Gladin Gorin of Fairfax Co VA ... I'd like to meet any "cousins" I haven't heard of yet and will do my best to help you with your family tree.

I have lately been reading your online research on the Gorin family with interest and am now "introducing" myself. I am a descendant of Toliver and Frances Gorin Hughlett by their daughter, Harriet S. L. Hughlett, who married Richard Benjamin Smith--through their son Wiley Biggs Smith who married Harriett Elkins--through their son Rowie Dallas "Jim" Smith who married Nova Bernice Cassell--through their son Russell Glen Smith who married Wilma Dee Jones (my parents). You have certainly done a lot of work on this family line; and I notice that you update on a regular basis, which is very nice.

One note--Union City, TN, is in Obion, not Obannion, County.

I forgot the other reason I'm contacting you--Thompson B. Gorin, son of Gladdin and Nancy Hinch Gorin. Other than his marriage to Minerva Eliza Rives, I find no mention of his having a prior marriage resulting in at least four other children??? I base this on his census entries for 1830 (21001-10001) and 1840 (001001-001)--both in Humphries County, TN. His first wife is deceased by the 1840 census, and the children of this first marriage seem to evaporate???

Nancy ... thanks SO much for your post, I'll correct the spelling of the town name; strictly a typo. I'll be glad to include your data in my files too.

On Thompson B, I'm not certain. A late researcher by the name of Raymond Henry Gorin gave me this data. We had researched together for many years; he was a descendant of the Gladin Gorin line (my daus are descended from Gladin's brother, Henry Gorin). He spent about 15 years in KY and TN talking to all the living kin he could find. At his death, his family gave me all the papers, some data I didn't have. This was from his records and possibly he was in error. I haven't checked the census records or anything on this marriage yet

If you are convinced by your research that there never was another wife, I'll remove the records from my files and from my Gorin family tree website.

I have a certificate that was presented to Virginia Gorin at Henderson Elementary School in 1948. I am guessing it is Henderson, Kentucky as I acquired this in southern Indiana. Is this one of your ancestors?
