I am looking for any info possible on Frederick Nicola/Niclklow who supposedly married Margaret Jennings, daughter of Benjamin and Rhoda (Spencer) Jennings. Her birthdate was either 1808 or 1818 (probably 1808). I have found nothing on Margaret or Frederick and if they had children, or where they might have moved to. Any info would be much appreciated. Benjamin and Rhoda would be my 5th great grandparents.

When I was searching for information on a Nicola/Nicklow that married into a Prinkey line, I did some civil war pension file searches for the Nicklow name. There was a declaration for Dependent Father's Pension for the soldier James Nicklow who died at Ohiopyle, Fayette Co., Pa on the 26th of June 1874. He was treated by his brother, Dr. Hugh Nicklow. Since James died with no widow or children under 16, his father Frederick Nicklow applied for a pension in 1891 at age 82. Frederick stated that he was married to the mother of the soldier on the 15th of Sept. 1832 at Garrettsville, Pa by John Hannah a JP and that she died 19th day of Nov 1859 at Somerset Co., Pa. On another statement he mentioned that the mother of the soldier, Margaret Nicklow, died at Draketown, Pa in 1859. The daughter of JP John Hanna, Anna Frantz, age 70 of Henry Clay Twp., Fayette Co., PA testified in 1892 that her father married Frederick Nicklow to Maggie Jennings. That is all of the information in the file. This is probably your Frederick Nicklow who was married to Margaret Jennings. There is no mention of Margaret Jennings parents or siblings. I hope this helps a little.

My Nicola line goes back to Bucks Co, PA with stops at Somerset Co PA and Preston Co W Va then on to Iowa. It has also been spelled Nicolas (John Born 1748 Bucks Co, died before Apr 1799 Turkeyfoot Twp) as well as Nicklo, Nicolaus, etc in records. My 3gr grandfather Jacob Nicola was Born 1 Nov 1776 Turkeyfoot Twp, 2 gr Jacob Born 23 Dec 1810. Many siblings and spouses of above recorded in Somerset Co. My gr grandfather, John C Nicola's, 1st wife Elizabeth Ann Wolf(e) was born 27 Feb 1826 Bullskin Twp Fayette Co. In the info sent to me I do not see a Frederick Nicklow(although man listed with that spelling), but wondered if in your search any of these names have shown up. Would be interested in sharing more.

Eileen & Beverly: Thank you so much for your info - I have virtually nothing on Margaret, and I wasn't even sure she existed, as Mary also married a Nicklow/Nicola, and some thought they were the same person. But Mary's husband was Jonas, supposedly. Mary and Margaret's parents were Benjamin Jennings Jr. and Rhoda Spencer. Their brother James is my line, down to my grandfather in SD. Ben & Rhoda are buried in Ream (Old Ursina) Cemetary, along with their son David & his wife Catherine.

I do appreciate all the help I have found on these Message Boards - if anyone needs anything from SD, I will be glad to help.

Who are you? Your post didn't list your ID.
You said that Rhoda Spencer Jennings was your ancestor...I am related through her brother, Jesse Spencer and would love to share info. I correspond with several Spencer researchers on your Jennings line.

Sometimes I wonder what might be wrong with our system - I thought I had filled in my name & stuff. It seems that maybe some of my messages don't get through either. Yes, I would be interested in more information. Alot of the things I have on the Jennings line keeps changing per other messages I have come across - I'm not sure what is correct anymore. And I am not able to do the physical research that I would like to do since I live in South Dakota & won't likely make it to PA or OH. I could exchange what I do have and see if it matches! Thanks!!
