I'LL GET IN TOUCH WITH MY GRAM HILDA BOWMAN-BARTON SHE IS BERLIN AND HAZEL BOWMAN'S ONLY CHILD TO FIND OUT WHERE IN VT AS THEY CAME DOWN FROM CANADA AS FARMERS AND LOGGERS TEMPORARILY LIVED IN VT I WANT TO SAY RUTLAND OR SWANTON AREA WHICH WOULD MAKE SENSE DUE TO ABENAKI HERITAGE.. I AM ALSO TRYING TO GET IN CONTACT WITH ONE OF MY MANY LIBERTY/LALIBERTIE` RELATIVES WHO ARE STILL LIVING IN CANADA OR LIVE IN U.S. BUT ARE VERY FAMILIAR WITH CANADA TO SEE IF CAN FIND INFO FOR THE LINE OF BOWMAN'S I COME FROM. AS SOON AS I GET ANY FURTHER MESSAGES I WILL CONTACT YOU VIA MESSAGE BOARD ETC. MY GOAL IS TO TRACE AS FAR BACK AS POSSIBLE TO NOT ONLY SHARE WITH OTHER RELATIVES BUT TO PASS ON TO MY IDENTICAL TWIN BOYS AND MY DAUGHTER. SO IT MAY BE A SHORT WHILE BEFORE I HAVE A DEFINITVE ANSWER AS I'M HAPPLIY BUSY WITH MY 3 YOUNG CHILDREN:) IF YOU HAVE ANY FURTHER INFO TO COMPARE WITH MY NOTES THAT YOU ARE WILLING TO SHARE I WILL GREATLY APPRECIATE IT. SO WOULD WE BE COUSINS?

I don't think I'm related, but I am also descended from a Canadian immigrant who came to the US at the same time as Lewis Bowman. We have a family tradition of Indian ancestry through this line, but I've had trouble tracing the family back across the border. And so, having stumbled on the Bowman saga-- was wondering if anyone has had any luck tracing Louis (Lewis) Bowman back to his birthplace? The federal censuses (1870 onward) all list him (and progeny) as White, so I'm wondering where the Abenaki ancestry comes in. We've got an equally confusing situation in my family. . . .

KWAI,KWAI!! My Bowman family was Abenaki, there Indian name was Obomsawin, if you visit our Abenaki web Ne-Do-Ba you will find old Indian Abenaki Census in Canada and also you can see what the Indian surnames were changed to, I have relatives, actually cousins who are Native American Authors whom I will be setting up a get together with as they have traced our GGGG.Grandfather's descendants back to Odanak-TROIS-Rivieres,Canada, proof that my descendants were truly Abenaki. I am now trying to trace my Russell-SENECA and Robbins-Mahegan Indian Ancestors, when I find out where to look in Canada I'll post the info for you. What surnames/lineage are you investigating?
