why is the spelling incorrect?

Why is the spelling on the gravestone inscription purposely spelled wrong? What is the meaning of doing it that way? On a headstone for a woman born 1809 and died 1901, part of the inscription says "Truly A Christian Woman" except Christian is spelled Christran with the "s" backwards.

I have no idea if it has meaning, but perhaps it's a error on the part of the engraver?

You will find lots of different spellings in Genealogy. People back then didn't always have the opportunity to go to school. Words were spelled the way they sounded. It looks like this is the case for this stone. I am researching the Cole family. I have seen it spelled Coal, Coale, Kohl etc

I agree with Barbnor2, in that how a word or name sounded was how it was spelled.
