Dorothy,
I am looking for a Charley and Sally Hayes because they supposedly raised my grandmother after she was orphaned. They were also supposed to be relatives but I haven't found the connection yet. My grandmother's name was Ora Avalene Thomas. She was the daughter of Lucinda Fairbelle "Belle" Brady and John Milton Thomas. She was born at Dennison in Grayson County, Texas in 1887. Her mother died in 1896 and her father in 1899. The Brady's came from Tennessee. They lived in Lamar County, TX, then Grayson Co. Tx, then Marshall Co. OK. I don't know anything about the Thomas'. I know that my gramdmother had cousins living in Chickasaw Nation by the last name of Dickerson. I talked with one of them about two years ago by phone. Her name was Lucille Dickerson. She was elderly and she really couldn't tell how everyone connected but she told me that Aunt Sally and Uncle Charley Hayes raised my grandma. She also told me that her grandfather was a Jesse S. Hayes. However, I don't know who Aunt Sally and Uncle Charley Hayes are related to me. She said her mother was this Jesse Hayes' daughter. I still don't know how my grandmother was related, whether it was through the Bradys, Butlers, Thomas or some other name that I haven't discovered yet. Butler was Ora's grandmother Brady's maiden name. When she was grown, she moved to western Oklahoma with some of the Bradys to Roger Mills County. Do you know if your Charley and Sally Hayes may have raised an extra child? Or was there another Charley Hayes in your family? Lucille also told me that she thought she remembered being told that Uncle Charley was a teacher and Aunt Sally ran a boarding house. I don't know where but in Indian territory somewhere. Does any of this sound like it might fit in with your Hayes? This really has me stumped! Any info or help will be more appreciated. Sincerely,

Sharon Jung,
Fredericksburg

My great grandfather, Charles W. Hayes, called Charlie was born 1836 Tn.; md. Sarah "Sally" Walker in Tx. and they had 9 children. The first 3 children, Eliza Jane (b. 1872), Rhoda Ann (b. 1874) and Joseph J. Hayes (b. 1876) were born at Lone Grove, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory (now Carter Co., Ok.) The rest of the children were born in Eastern Okla. and west Arkansas (Scott and Washington Co's).
Can we connect?

Marion Liehue/Liehue Marion Hayes from Lawrence Co. TN. in the later 1800's. He had abunch of brothers. His mother's maiden name was Mary Williams from either VA or W.VA. I would like to know if anyone knows anything about them. I believe one brother was named Doctor, one John, Fate, William and there were more. Thanks, Betty Wieghmink

Hi,
Mary Hayes parent's were WILLIAM AND SARAH HAYES.
WILLIAM BORN ABT. 1825, SARAH 1829. WE BELIEVE THAT
SARAH WAS AN ALLEN MAIDEN NAME.....NOT SURE.
THEY HAD ABOUT 13 CHILDREN. THEY WERE ORIGINALLY FROM
WAYNE COUNTY, SARAH WAS FROM ALABAMA.
I DO HAVE A LIST OF ALL THE CHILDREN. I CAN CHECK FOR YOUR
DAD.
THERE IS STILL THE OLD HOME PLACE IN LAWRENCE COUNTY TN.,
IT WAS SOLD I BELIEVE WITHIN THE LAST 10 YEARS.
THE YOUNGER HAYES FAMILIES LEFT LAWRENCE COUNTY AND MOVED
TO TEXAS.
