Looking for any information on the Dixon line . Have a younger brother(?) of my Great Grandmother who was sent to somewhere in Australia by his parents to escape the Great War (1914). I know he was in the sheep farming business in Kirkby Stephen, Westmoreland, the village of Nateby, where all his family were from and some still are. Gather he came back to England in the 60's and had not been a great success. Might have returned to Australia to farm after that. Trying to tie obscure piece of knowledge together with little success

I notice your name comes up on a lot of messages but all some time ago so don't know if you are still at this address.
Have you done any research on your own name "lockman" in Australia?

Hi Raine,
Yes I had done some research on the Lockman family - only to be told that this is not the correct spelling of the name
it should be Lachmund. So I did a little research on the Lachmunds and found they came out during the gold rush in 1854 from Germany.

Hi Julie,

Thank you for replying. I have a sister Julie Lockman. When you were doing the research on the name Lockman, did you come across a Theodore, Peter possibly born in UK and Alfred Lockman? When did your name change to Lockman from Lachmunds?

Regards,

Raine

Hello Sally, perhaps you are looking for my Grandfather, Richard Dixon who immigrated to New Zealand about 1914 from the Dixon line at Nateby, Rakehead. My grandfather married a Lousia Evans, they had 4 children one of which is my father Thomas who was born in 1926. My father married Doreen Davis and had 7 children, 5 boys and 2 girls of which I am one of the girls. I moved to Australia in 1978, married an Australian and over the years my parents, my sister and brothers have moved over here to Australia, except for 1 brother who remains in New Zealand.
My husband and I took my mum and dad over to England a few years ago to visit Rakehead, Nateby and the rest of the Dixon line in 2006, it was a fabulous trip and my father was thrilled to see where his father Richard had grown up.
I keep contact with the Dixon's in Nateby, although Jonanthan whose son Paul runs Rakehead passed away nearly 2yrs ago.
Perhaps not the right Dixon you were after???
Regards
