Seeking anyone researching Cunninghams of Jefferson and surrounding towns in Lincoln County Maine prior to 1830, I'm specifically looking for the parents of Thomas, b. ca 1800, Daniel b. 1804 and David, b. 1809. I believe these three to be brothers, but can't confirm. I have a lot of information on different Cunninghams of the area and would like to find others researching these lines.

I have several Samuel Cunninghams, but none of them match your dates of birth and death. Is Readfield in Lincoln County? Have you checked census data? Wish I could be of more help.

Hi...

I am a descendent of the Cunninghams from Jefferson. Unfortunately, I do not have any info for you. But, maybe you can help me.

I have traced my family back to------

Warren R Cunningham 1842/1841 - ?) (married to Georgia A Hilton).

Children - Annie, Emily, Lester and Henry

I do not know Warren's parents or other siblings, or any other info beyond that.

Thanks
Dianne

Hi Dianne,
I'm coming up empty as far as a Warren Cunningham in my database, but I did find two entries in Ancestry for Warrens from Maine who fought in the Civil War. Your Warren would have been about the right age. Also found him in the 1880 US Census living in Whitefield ME, age 38, with wife Georgia, Anni, Emily, Lester and Henry. Have you looked into the Civil War link? If you can get his military papers, you can probably get a whole lot more information to go on. I'll keep you in mind if I get anything else on him.

Jean,
I haven't worked on this line for a while, so bear with me. I have some Deerings, and 2 Rufus Cunninghams, and a Betsey Cunningham - and they may or may not be the ones you're looking for. Here's what I have:

Rufus Cunningham, b. 10 Feb 1792, son of Thomas and unknown wife. Siblings: Timothy b. 1789; John b 1794; Polly b 1797; Allers b 1798 and Luther b. 1800. Source: Maine Town Records 1774-1932
In my notes I found the following: From ancestry: A company that used to sell documents and no longer does (Native Soil Transcripts),
had this brief on a document in their possession: "Doc #1728, Type of
manuscript: Summons; Location: Putman, Maine; Edgecomb, Maine;
Nobleborough, Maine; Year: 1818
Comments: An indenture, served by Robert huston, Justice of the Peace,
in which two men, Timothy and Rufus Cunningham, have to answer to Samuel
Bellard on a charge that they owe him $34.55 (a substantial sum compared
to most of these indentures, which usually run around the $2 - $10
range).

My other Rufus is the son of Thomas N Cunningham and Nancy McFarland, b. 21 Oct 1821 in Belfast, Maine, d. 14 May 1888, married Anna Henderson. Children: Alexander Johnston Cunningham, Frank, Ada and Thomas. This Rufus was a doctor who went to Dartmouth Medical School . Source: Research notes from Wiscasset Library.

Could either of these Rufus be the one you're looking for? Perhaps married twice?

Deering:

I have a large family of Deerings, but niether a Betsey nor an Elizabeth. Let me know if you'd like the info. Parents William Deering and Eunice Cunningham, married 26 Jan 1809, Jefferson, Lincoln County, ME.

Hope this helps.
Noel

Hi Jean,
I did some work on my wife's family history. She is a Deering.
last weekend, I found the name Rufus Cuningham. Not until I saw your email and Noel's did I understand why the Cuninghams were listed. I guess he married Elizabeth - Betsy or Mary Jane Deering. They must be somewhere in my wife' line. I will check this out and advise.
Deering Bible reference:
Rufus Cuningham
Elizabeth
Timothy born 4/25/1826
Elbridge born 7/17/1828
Rufus born 5/2/1831
Elmira born 4/19/1896
Mary Jane born 4/17/1839

I wonder if your Thomas Cunningham is the one buried at Hopkins Cemetery in Jefferson, Maine, died 1868, his wife Elizabeth d. 1844.

I am researching a Samuel Cunningham, Jr., born 1805 supposedly in Washington, Maine, but he and his third wife, Eliza Vannah, are also buried in Hopkins Cemetery. I wonder if you have any information about him.

Thanks.
