BLACK/KESSLER

Looking for Botetourt information/help on Catherine Black (1801-1872), on her father (Jacob Black), and on their Black
family.

Catherine (aka Katherine) was the second wife of Daniel
Kessler. Their marriage was 05 Aug 1817 in Botetourt. This
marriage record is cited several places as well as in
“Early marriages, wills, and some Revolutionary War
records, Botetourt County” by Anne Lowry Worrell.

The couple emigrated to Illinois around 1820. They had at
least 3 children before Daniel died in 1828.

Does anyone know this Black family?

Thank you, Laura Morrison

I know this has been a couple of years since your post, but I am sure I can help you in your Illinois Kesslers. They migrated to Sangamon Co., IL and most are buried in Auburn Cemetery, Auburn, Sangamon Co., IL. That is where Daniel and Catherine are buried. Let me know if you need more help and I can give you more information. Jan Gray

Hi Jan, I am most interested in Catherine Black and her father and/or brother Jacob Black. I have found the works of Morris Kessler. Toby Chamberlin posted many Auburn tombstones.

Do you know about the Blacks/Swartz(earlier Botetourt) ?
Thank you,
Laura

Don't know much about the Black family, but there are a lot of Black's buried in several cemeteries in our area. There are still Blacks in Auburn. I am glad you found Morris' geneology works. He was a great guy. www.findagrave.com has many photos listed of these ancestors. Glad thing worked out for you. Happy hunting Jan Gray

Thank you, Jan. I have a lot of IL genealogy balls in the air right now. I hope to come back to Jacob Black. One vet of the Black Hawk War was honored almost 3 yrs ago. http://will.illinois.edu/news/spotstory/illinois-national-gu...

I phoned and wrote but no one ever replied. Guess they want to keep him to themselves. But I'd bet this one came from VA. Catherine Black Kessler and her Jacob Black sure did.

I forgot to tell you I live in VA about an hour from the Glade Creek Church where the older Kesslers are buried.

Happy New Year,
Laura

Hi Jon and thank you,

My Jacob Black was the father of Catherine Black (b.1802) and the father-in-law of Daniel Kessler (Early marriages, wills, and some Revolutionary War records, Botetourt County, Virginia by Anne Lowry Worrell). These are my husband's ancestors lsited/cited/written about in Morris Kessler's "Out of the Blue Ridge."

Any primary sources or academic works?

Was Jacob Black married to Barbara Lark?

Did he serve in the War of 1812 and the Black Hawk War?

Is he buried in the Florey Cemetery, Ill http://mywebtimes.com/archives/ottawa/display.php?id=406770?

1) I don't get into other people's tree books. Are you interested in ancestral facts like possible parents of Jacob, even if he wasn't a military hero?
2) Rena....could you tackle this one? (Was Jacob Black married to Barbara Lark?). She may know the answer to that if the marriage occurred in Botetourt.
3) I don't have enough info to research this question.
4) Obviously given the date of birth, the Jacob Black of your link is not the Jacob Black who fathered Catherine. Not sure what your looking for in that question.
