Looking for further info on John H Collins b. abt. 1810 Connecticut married widow Cynthia Eggleston b. abt 1822 in Ohio. They appear in 1870 Oshkosh census with 7 yr old daughter Clara B. Would love to have more info on this line.

Hello, I am not related. John died in April of 1873 and has an obit/death notice/etc. in the Oshkosh Weekly Northwestern, which I do not have access to. I was able to get the obit/death notice for his wife. Hope this helps. RP.

COLLINS-At Eureka, Kansas, Feb. 21, 1884,
Mrs. J. H. Collins, widow of the late J. H. Collins of this city, and mother of Mrs. Geo Jones.
The remains will leave for Oshkosh this afternoon for interment. The body Is expected here Sunday morning when it will be conveyed from the depot to the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Jones, No. 499 Main street. The funeral will occur from tbe First M. E. Church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock unless there ls delay of trains.

The funeral of Mrs. J. H. Collins took place at the First M. E. church Sunday afternoon and was largely attended by friends and old acquaintances. The remains arrived on the early morning train from Eureka, Kansas, accompanied by her step-son, Nelson Collins, formerly of this city, who started back on the first train after the funeral. The funeral services were conducted by presiding elder J. M. Walker, who formerly lived in Mrs. Collins' family and who happened to be in the city at this time.

I appreciate the additional information but I am only concerned about John's wife Cynthia McFarland Eggleston and her daughter Clara B Collins Jones. Tough name to trace - George Jones.

Are you sure it was Clara who married George Jones? Cynthia's obit only mentioned one daughter. But in the 1860 census, it looks like she also had a daughter Edna Eggleston (born 1849 Ohio). Could Edna in 1860 (born 1849 Ohio) have been the wife of George Jones? See the 1880 Oshkosh census below. Edna M. Jones (born 1847 Ohio)

It does seem like it was Edna Eggleston who married George Jones. They had 1 daughter Emma.

I don't know if this is Edna's death date or obit. I didn't find Edna in the 1905 or 1910 Wisconsin census, nor Illinois, where dsughter Emma died, whom she was married to Harry Leonard.

The remains of Mrs. Emma Leonard of Chicago, arrived in the city this afternoon and were taken to Riverside cemetery, where services were to he held at five o'clock this afternoon. The deceased was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. M Jones of this city. Besides the parents, the husband and a son three years of age survive.

Remains of Chicago Resident Laid to Rest at Riverside Cemetery--

The Services

The remains of the late Mrs. Emma Leonard brought from Chicago to this city, Monday afternoon, at 4:50 o'clock, accompanied by the husband and the little son. The deceased was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Jones, and was married in this city.
The remains were taken to Riverside for Interement, and Rev. Edward H. Smith conducted a brief service at the grave in the presence of a number of relatives and friends.
