I know my 5th gr-grandfather, John HART, was one of the 56 Signers of the Declaration of Independence. I would like more information on his descendants, and would love to get in touch with my living cousins. Does anyone have any info on his son that was murdered?

I have read that two of John HART's sons were guides for George Washington during some battles in either the New Jersey or Connecticutt areas. John was too elderly to actively fight. Does the DAR have records of his sons that fought, since I'm sure they know who his sons are?

I would be happy to look up John Hart's sons in the DAR Patriot Index for you. However, I need to know their Christian names. I just checked the DAR Patriot Index for the surname Hart with service in NJ and there were 29. I am unable to determine which, if any, are John Hart's sons.
I look forward to hearing from you. CNelson

Thanks so much, C. Nelson, for the info on John Hart's sons' service in the Revolutionary War. The Daniel Hart you showed is my 3rd great-grandfather! Jesse, Nathaniel, and Edward are three of Daniel's brothers that served. I read that John, another of Daniel's brothers, went to Cuba and traveled a LOT, leaving Grandpa John to raise his daughter, Mary. Can anyone verify that Daniel was killed (knifed) by his slave, and that slave was caught and executed?

Unfortunately, I am unable to provide any additional information on any of the patriots I have written to you about. However, you may be able to find the answer to your question in a family history or in a reported court case in NJ. Good luck in your future research!

Re: John HART, Signer of Declaration of Independence
Sharon, The person you are looking for that was killed by a knife was John Hart's Brother "Daniel", who John named his son after. Daniel (his son) did have a daughter who stayed in NJ to live when Daniel moved to Va.-WV. I am from that line of Daniel and have lived in the Elkins area as a child and go to the Hart Family Reunion every year in Beverly WV, as close as we can get to July 4th every year. There is a bunch of us Harts still living in WV area. If I can help you out Please feel free to contact me at: WVridgerunner@gmail.comI am Steven Hart, John Hart was my 6th GGF and Daniel is my 5th GGF. Thank you for your reply. Steve

Re: John HART, Signer of Declaration of Independence
John Hart was my 6th gr. grandfather, but I do not remember which child of his is my direct ancestor. My child is doing research on ancestory and we are looking for information as to which country John Hart's ancestors came from. I would assume England, but whom in his past came over and when. Does anyone know? Also, does anyone have an extensive family tree of John Hart's decendents? Virginia Sharpe (my maternal grandmother was Louise Hart)
