Hello, I have been researching the Vetal family for several years and to date have been uable to locate any info on them prior to 1860 in vermont.

All I know is my gg grandfather was Frank J Vetal born 1839 in Canada. On the census it list him as being French-Canadian.

I have searched several data bases and have found no record with Vetal BEING FRENCH OR CANADIAN. can anyone assit me?

I would suspect that his name became 'Americanized' when he went to the US. You might try searching for Francois Vidal.
I think Vidal is the correct French name.
Just my two cents.
