Surnames: Raney, Selkirk
I'm trying to trace living relatives of Dora Raney nee Selkirk, she was born on the 26 June 1906 in Edinburgh Scotland. When she was about 12 years of age we think she emigrated to Canada and then later moved to the USA and eventually married Jack Perryman Raney. Jack Perryman Raney was born on the 19 July 1906 in Illinois and he died 0n the 8 June 1958 in California.
Dora's father Robert Selkirk was my great grandfather's brother.
Hope someone can help,
Nadia

•Full name at birth (including maiden name)

•Place of birth (City, county, state)
•Father's full name "regardless of whether living or dead"
•Mother's full name, including maiden name, "regardless of whether living or dead"
•Sex and race
•Ever applied for SS number/Railroad Retirement before? Yes/No
•Current employer's name and address
•Date signed
•Applicant's signature

A standard letter to the Social Security Administration is available with the search results on the Ancestry.com Social Security Death Index. This letter may be printed and mailed to the Social Security Administration to request a copy of your ancestor's SS-5 form. The Social Security Administration now charges $27.00 for each individual copy (an abbreviated NUMIDENT printout is available for $16.00).

Hello, I am not related. From what I found, Dora came to meet her husband in the U.S. in 1931. So they MAY HAVE married in Canada? if this was the first time she entered the U.S. Then she was naturalized in 1937. Then it looked like she made a trip to someplace in 1951, and came back from London to New York.

I couldn't find any death info on Dora Raney, so I had a hunch that she may have remarried. I went to the SSDI, and typed in just her first name, and her birth date, and came up with a Dora Kalina. See below as to what I found. Could this be Dora? Was her mother's maiden name something like Wattbonar? If so, Dora was married to Frank Kalina, and they both died in a car-train crash in Minnesota. Hope this helps. RP

Car-train crash kills two in Le Sueur County
By The Associated Press
The deaths of three persons, including two who died in a car-train crash in southern Minnesota Tuesday, has raised the state's 1973 highway toll to 614, compared with 682 a year ago.
The Le Sueur County sheriff's office identified the victims of the crash near Montgomery, Minn., as Frank R. Kalina, 56, driver of the car, and Dora R. Kalina, 67, a passenger.
The accident involving a Chicago & North Western freight train occurred about 8:45 a.m. Tuesday on a county road 2 1/2 miles northeast of Montgomery.
The sheriff's office said it did not know if the dead woman was Kalina's wife or sister.
A deputy said the Kalinas lived at Chula Vista, Calif., during the winter and spent their summers at Lonsdale, Minn.

Hello Nadia,

I came upon your posting by chance. I believe that I am Dora Raney's grandson. My mother divorced a Waren Lewis Raney when I was a baby. I know that he is of Scott descent, however I never knew either of them. I did not learn of them until I was a teenager. I have a picture of an older woman with dark, curly hair holdng me at my baptism. I believe that it is Dora, since I see that Jack Perryman Raney died before I was born. I hope that helps you in your quest to find branches of the family.

All the Best,
Jack

Hello. This isn't much, but I am doing my own ancestry research. Dora Raney signed my birth certificate. She must have been the nurse that assisted Frank J Ragen, MD, to deliver me. I was born at Chula Vista Community Hospital, in a suburb of San Diego, California, in August of 1959. I'd be happy to send you a copy of her signature if you're interested. You can reach me at wexli@cox.net.
